When we bought our condo we had the lucky idea of providing Guest Books and requesting that visitors write in good and bad things about activities and our condo to share with others.   Now we have years of comments for visitors who stayed here in West Maui.  The comments are like a local travel guide. We are very happy for all of the nice comments about Sunset Central.

Another fabulous 2 weeks at Sunset Central!  Everything was fantastic and can’t wait to return next year.  We hit practically every beach on the West side of the island.  We think you can’t beat the sunset here from the lanai – so we never eat dinner anywhere else!  We did order take out from Okazuya one night and it was fabulous.

Thanks Ray and Connie for sharing your “home”!

Aloha Ray and Connie,

Once again our stay at Sunset Central was wonderful.  Just like the last 4 years.

Like clockwork we land and hit Costco and we arrive at 3 pm.  We are home.  First couple of days are for relaxation.  Do nothing but enjoy the lanai, wave and view.  Finally get out to all our running around the Island, taking care of getting all gifts for the family.

Lots of sunset pic’s.  The sea turtles were all over the sea wall.  Counted 10 at one time, the Ray’s came by 3 times about 150’ out playing together, 4or more, weather was sweet, tiny rain one day.

Made our yearly trip to Kahakuloa for the best shaved ice on the island A Lorraine’s Shaved Ice with banana bread, chocolate frozen bananas, you will not find any better Hawaiian hospitality on the island, also we picked one more of her hand made Quilts for $150.00 instead of $750.00 at your local big stores in town.

Back to relaxing @ the condo for the rest of our stay.  Hate to leave our 2nd home.  We will be back next year same time as always.

Thank you Ray and Connie

Aloha Ray and Connie,

We have had a wonderful week here.  What a fabulous location.  We did not do the “BIG” trips having previously visited both Hana and Haleakala – so our focus was on snorkeling.  We enjoyed many locations including Kapalua Bay, Slaughterhouse and Honoloa Bay.  We had a South swell that came in and made snorkeling a bit tough but we still ventured out each day.  We rented our gear from Boss Frogs and they were very helpful.

Most of our dining was here on the lanai - bought fresh fish from Costco and from the Fish Market down the street.  So nice to just chill right here and prepare a great meal with the gas grill and the fully equipped kitchen.

We did venture up to Sansei Sushi one night and it was great.  At this time of year did not have to wait in line for long.  We had Mai Tais out at Mama’s Fish House (gorgeous location) and had lunch at the Flat Bread Company in Paia.  Great stuff!!  We do recommend the magic/comedy show at Warren and Annabelle’s.  It was very entertaining!  Recommend reservation in advance.  Neither of us were sold on gong to the magic show but it was highly recommended by a few friends.  We think it is definitely worth it!!  We had drinks and a light dinner at Fleetwoods in Lahaina prior to the shown and it was very good.

Our final day in Maui we took a snorkeling trip to Molokini with Boss Frogs.  It was a great trip.  Saw lots of fish and a couple of octopus and an eel or two!  Highly recommend if you are in to snorkeling.

Thank you Ray and Connie.  We had a great time.

Thanks for letting us enjoy your well appointed condo.  Our perfect day (which we repeated a lot) was to get up early, go to Kapalua Bay by 8 am, and grab a shady spot snorkel and read til 11:00 then walk to the Sea House Restaurant at Napili Kai for a Napili Philly prime rib sandwich and onion rings.  (you have to try these once, take extra simvastatin, return to K Bay, snorkel then to the condo around 2, read , then around 4 or 5 go to Dukes for Happy our, light dinner and home to Sunset Central to watch the sun go down.  Never did these yellow crimson events let us down.  We will return.

Thanks Chuck and Trish

Ray and Connie,

Thank you so much for sharing your condo with us.  We are so glad to have been here for our honeymoon!  We tried to pack in the “must do’s” but also had an amazing time just hanging out at the condo and enjoying the lanai.  We rented snorkel gear from Boss Frogs down the street $25/set per week.  Cheaper even if you don’t necessarily need it for a whole week.   We saw two large turtles two days in a row just outside the condo & a little North to where the ladder on the rocks is – lots of fish too.  We tried to snorkel early before the ocean gets too rough (too sandy!)  We did the snorkel ½ day trip on Hawaii Ocean Rafting’s Moan-O-War boar from Lahaina (slip 8) – definitely a highlight of our trip – saw lots of dolphins as well as a few turtles.  The trip went to Lanai but we heard good things about the Trilogy trip to Molokini too.  We did ziplining with North Shore – great fun.  7 ziplines total there.  Some rickety ladders and bridges involved so if you take your kids make sure they are brave enough.  We took a day to do the Road to Hana & appreciated the CD guided tour!  Lots of great food stands along the way.  We did Pipiwai Trail, 4 mile hike @ the end of the road and felt it was worth it.  It is a very easy hike if you take your time, beautiful bamboo forest & stunning waterfall at the end, 400 ft.  The hike is in the Haleakala Park and the $10 parking pass is good for a couple of days.  You can plan your trip so you could also use the pass again to go up to the Haleakala summit.  We went to the summit during the day which made for an easier commute. (less bikers & cars plus no driving in the dark)  It was breathtaking.  We ate at the Lavendar Farm on the way back – beef tacos & pesto sandwich were delicious!  And the lady running the place was so nice.  We also did an afternoon in Paia where we got many of our souvenirs – lots of local artists work.  Although pricey we did a couples massage at Spa Grande in Grand Wailea – wonderful facilities there.  We also loved just wandering around Lahaina.  Some of the places we enjoyed eating were:  Mokey Pad in Wailea (by Merriman), - great draft beer & best Mai Tai I had.  Even better than Mama’s Fish House.  We enjoyed the ahi poke tacos, lobster pizza, ahi sandwich, and truffle fries.  At Mama’s Fish House we loved the stuffed Mahi Mahi and we’re glad we indulged in desert – lilikoi crème brulee & the Hana Banana Macadamia Nut Crisp.  At Mala’s we really enjoyed the ahi bruschetta.  Do yourself a favor and get the full order.  Kimo’s was also delicious - great grilled shrimp + beet salad.  If you are into beer Maui Brewing Co. Pub is about a mile walk up the street – we would have gone a second time if we had the chance.  Great adult mac and cheese.  Hula Grill was great for lunch with live music.  We also enjoyed a sunset boogie cruise from Ka’anapali on the Queen’s Treasure - crew was wonderful + it was great fun. (very laid back) Like others we enjoyed Warren and Annabelle’s Magic Show (a 21+ activity) – food was okay and mixed drinks were weak so you might get more bang for the buck buying by the glass and sticking to wine and beer.  (suggestion from Ray the owner: skip the dinner and just go see the show.  There are great restaurants all by the show)  They noted that they get busier after labor day so try to book in advance – you can book on line.  We did the Royal Lahaina Luau – the Old Lahaina Luau was booked 6 weeks out!!  We had a great time.  We were told the Old Lahaina Luau was more traditional, but, because of this they don’t do the fire dancing that others do.  Not sure that is true.  All in all we had a wonderful time!  We’re already trying to plan when to come back!  Thank you so much for this amazing little oasis from “the rest of the world”.

Briana and Ryan

Owner note:  I have been copying rent comments for years with close to 300 of them.  I think this is the most informative one I have ever copied.  I can’t believe the time they took to share their experiences with others.  Mahalo!

Our stay here was a 3 day add on before we move to our time share for a week.  The view at Sunset Central is amazing!  We haven’t done much outside of the condo because we wanted to maximize our time by the ocean and the great sunsets.  We know our timeshare doesn’t even come close to Sunset Central so we will do our sight seeing then.

We had Ono tacos – really good, Aloha Mixed Plate and Betty’s Beach café in Lahaina – great hamburgers and Kona Wailua Wheat beer.  We plan to go to the Swap Meet on Saturday and attend the local art fair on Sunday.  We have trips planned for the rest of Maui and since I’m a quilter, quilt shops are definitely part of those trips.

We hope to visit again someday.  In all our trips to the other islands we have never had this good of a view.

Thank you for sharing your condo with us!  It was everything we hoped it would be (based on your website) and more!  We are looking at our calendar to schedule a return trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of this place.  The peaceful setting encouraged “Relaxing”, and that is what we did.  This place was so perfect for us we didn’t care to go anywhere.  We’ve decide that one week is not long enough.  This was our maiden voyage and we will return.

We swam and snorkeled…BBQ’d at the complex and rarely left.  We entertained thoughts of doing some of the things that previous renters have written about … and decided to embark on those things on our next trip.

Thank you so much for this clean, complete condo!  Our vacation was just what we needed!

Aloha Ray and Connie!  After a long and stressful flight it was so wonderful to arrive at your lovely condo.  We were tired, hungry and grumpy.  We headed down to the Fish Market where we had a delicious late lunch/early dinner.  The seared Ahi sandwich is not to be missed!  Back at the condo we saw our first gorgeous sunset.  It was a little warm the first day though.  When we opened up everything and turned in all the fans it cooled off some.  The second day we rented snorkel equipment from Boss Frogs.  Saw lots of beautiful fish right here plus 2 turtles!  Very cool!  We went to Ulalani’s for shave ice on Thursday and it totally lived up to the hype.  Delicious! On Friday we went to the Luau at the Sheraton.  We had a great time.  And it was so open to the sea so we didn’t miss the sunset.  Saturday we took the Valley Isle tour of the Road to Hana.  Really a highlight of our trip!  Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable about plant life and Hawaiian history.  No way would I want to drive that road myself!  Back in time to see another lovely sunset.  For dinner we picked up a couple of pizzas from the Pizza Connection.  It’s a wood fired pizza oven in a parking lot.  It being a Saturday night we had to wait awhile but the pizza was AMAZING!  Also on Friday we rented SUO boards.  We do this at home but it’s definitely harder on the ocean.  We had our last dinner at Kimos.  Go early and enjoy the sunset!  Food was good!  We had a wonderful trip.

Thank you –

We had a wonderful time here in Maui!  A first for my husband and myself.

We did many things all quite enjoyable.  Len was snorkeling with the turtles right out front.  I enjoyed a helicopter ride and submarine ride.  We also survived the Road to Hana.

For eats Len & I both enjoyed Bubba Gumps, Aloha Mixed Plate and the Cool Cat all in Lahaina.  We were also fortunate enough to attend the Old Lahaina Luau.  It’s quite an experience with a delicious spread and entertainment that tells the story of Hawaii’s past.  Well worth the money.

Thank you Ray and Connie for sharing your home with us.  It was an experience of a lifetime.

Where do we ever begin??!!  The condo ~ aka ~ Sunset Central was everything you could ask for.  Beautiful sunsets, plenty of sea turtles (right in front of the lanai) and equipped with boogie boards and snorkeling gear – FYI – do take advantage of it all.

We didn’t go out to eat as much.  Times was our stop for groceries and they are better priced than Costco and Safeway.  (owner Ray adding this comment.  Only on some things are they better priced)

From top to bottom left or right there wasn’t anything in Maui we didn’t do.

Molokini and Turtle Town was fun – however – we got to see more fish and turtles from our lanai.

Halelakala Crater is a must – it was absolutely stunning.   And cold!  The Road to Hana is a day trip – pack food – drinks as most places (roadside) were closed – so we recommend anyday but Sunday.  Great waterfalls along the way.  The Surfing Goat Dairy Farm was a treat!  We also recommend to stop by the ABC stores – great souvenirs and last minute drink and treats.  The Lahaina Cannery Mall was a letdown.  The few times we went out to eat we enjoyed Paradise Grill - prices & great service.  Moose McGillycuddy’s on Front St has good food and prices but lousy service.

All in all a great time.  We had a chance to meet the owner, Ray, on our 2nd and 3rd night – what a treat.

Thank you for allowing us to spend 9 glorious days in your paradise!  Mahalo

I was going to write that for the first time on our early May trios we did not see any whales.  We extended our trip 3 days by staying at a friend’s condo and today our last day a whale put on a show.  At least 6 breaches.  Two days ago I saw a herd of dolphins swim by and jumping out of the water.  I know a school.  I think that is a first for me.

One thing about staying in a friend’s condo is that you get to meet your new renters.  Met Helen and Jill and it was nice.

Food: 4 trips to Okazuya and ate on our lanai.  All 4 good with Teriyaki steak, Mahi Mahi with lemon capers, & Korean BBQ chicken.  Went to Kimo’s for Happy Hour.  Very good.  More options than before.  Went to Maui Fish and Pasta 2 times.  Happy Hour Mon & Tues. 5-6 pm = 1/2 off everything.  Sad to say as I write this on 1/6/16, the best deal on the island is no longer done by Maui Fish and Pasta.  Had Ribeye steaks, and pork chops (best I have ever had) ½ off was $14.00.  Connie had shrimp cocktail with 3 huge shrimps.  Had calamari.  Went to Sansei early bird.  Always good.

This trip picked out tile and fixtures to remodel bathroom in August.  Going to a walk in shower.  We are excited about that.

Sunsets were ok.  Maybe 5-6 real nice ones, 2 duds and 7 ok.  Very cloudy,

Tonight we went to Duke’s for Happy Hour.   Very good.  Will go again.  Went to Dunes Golf Course restaurant, Café Ole, for lunch over by Kahalui.  Will go again.  Went to Paia Fish Market.  Our favorite lunch place.  Ahi burger rare and Mahi Mahi burger,

Gotta go.

We have enjoyed our stay at Sunset Central!  The condo is thoughtfully equipped.  We liked eating on the lanai and watching the beautiful sunsets.  Snorkeling at Black Rock and Kapalua Bay was fun.  We especially liked eating at the Sea House. Our stay here was lovely but we would recommend buying some comfortable chairs.  The recliner aka the potato chip chair, lifted your feet higher than your head.  My Aunt and Uncle took me here for my sweet 16 birthday!  So I of course loved every minute of our stay, never mind the chairs.  (owner note: This is a standard recliner and in any position the head is not higher than the foot.  Have not had this complaint ever) The weather was outstanding.  I am from Roswell, New Mexico, the land of heat and dryness.  I had never felt perfect weather before this.  The patio was where we spent most of our time.  It’s literally 10 feet from the ocean.  (owner note:  it feels like 10 feet but is more like ten long steps)  We are all snorkelers and we tried at least ten different snorkeling spots, including the old Wharf, Honoloa Bay, Kapalua Bay, Black Rock, a beach of the island of Lanai, and a couple places off the highway.  Would rank Kapalua Bay as the best as it had outrageous coral and easy access.  I am sad to leave this little piece of heaven! L  Check out Cheeseburger in Paradise.

Loved Maui.  It was better than we imagined!!!   First time here and came with 2 of our best friends in the world.  We celebrated our 40thanniversary & this was our gift to each other.  We have been to some pretty neat places but this topped them all.  The people are warm and friendly, the scenery to die for and the food was terrific.  We tried not to take a single moment for granted…….  We love to be on the water when we can… We are grateful to count this trip as one of the many things we have been blessed with.

        Thank you,

R & C.  Mahalo for our 5th year at Sunset Central. (probably 24 to Maui), so content to just relax in your Paradise!  Great haircut with Colleen at Head to Toe Saloon and Massage at Zensations!  We love the Honoapi’ialani Park Beach Walk, frequent food and drinks stops at Dukes!  Also love the Whaler’s beach walk and Hula Grill!  Bought a large silver turtle at Crystal Rainbows (Whales) to commemorate my first beached turtle sighting on your beach (1-1/2) days.  Kimo’s Mahi-Mahi good as ever, but VERY rushed service!  Riso essential, Star Noodle don’t quite get the hype ~loud crowded.  Our fav Okazuya Mahi Mahi saute.  Aloha Mixed Plate was very buggy.  Too much starch for us ~ we just had a drink and Saimen.  Would return for that J Dinner at Roy’s (used Alaskan discount card) Very nice.

Mahalo for sharing Sunset Central with us again.  As this was our third visits, it’s beginning to feel like home.

Having been to Maui several times I didn’t discover anything new but was glad to find old favorites (i.e. aloha Mixed Plate) alive and well.  My cousin joined me this trip & since this was her first ever visit to Hawaii, it was fun showing her my favorite places.  Coming from Montana, to say she enjoyed the weather is a huge understatement!

As much as we enjoyed our day in Hana & several snorkeling “ventures”, my favorite activity is still sitting on the lanai or sea wall and watching the whales & turtles.

Thank you again for another wonderful visit.  I’m already planning my next visit (2016?)

After many trips to Maui I feel blessed to have found this place. J  Our vacation was perfect ~ greatly appreciate all the wonderful information provided.

Trilogy is by far the best company to sail/snorkel etc.  Surrounded by whales ~ swam with sea turtles and they brought us by the dolphins!  Also got to hear the whales “singing” with a hydrophone unbelievable!!

Mamas Fish House expensive but amazing.  Go left out of the restaurant lot hit the second service scenic area ~ surfers galore & one of the most spectacular views!

Magic show is fun but skip the food and just go to the show.

Beach here is fantastic ~ saw lots of turtles & whales right here!  Everything was perfection ~ couldn’t ask for more.

Thanks Ray & Connie for sharing your beautiful home with us.

We really enjoyed our stay here.  The location is convenient to everywhere and the view is unsurpassed.  The place was perfect and we would love to stay here again when we return to Maui.  We loved dining out at Honu Seafood, 2395 Front St.  Aloha Mixed Plate on Front St. was great too.

We’re visiting your beautiful home from California (Ventura County)  This is our Babymoon as Michelle is 26 weeks pregnant with our first baby… It’s a boy!!  This was the perfect last getaway before the baby arrives!  We absolutely love the location of the “Sunset Central” condo.  We took it as a very good sign that the minute we arrived we spotted a very large green sea turtle lounging on the beach down below the condo.  We later snorkeled with him right out front.  He is amazing!  Michelle named him “Norman”.  It was fun to watch surfers, paddle boarders, and boogie boarders playing out front.  One day a beautiful Monk seal beached herself right on the sand to the right of the condo …  they are very rare to see and endangered, she stayed for about 6 hours and then proceeded to swim, feed & play in the water directly in front of the condo …  Very cool.

Our Maui adventures:  We loved checking out the amazing surfers and views from Honoloa Bay/surf spot.  We’d pick up a breakfast burrito from Maui Tacos and head up to Honoloa to each and watch surfers, whales and dolphins.  We drove the entire Hana Highway in the car but worth the sites.  We did a lot of snorkeling… Napili Bay, Honoloa Bay and right our front of the condo (when it calmed down).

We had a really awesome breakfast at the Gazebo restaurant.  Michelle ordered the macadamia nut banana pancakes with whipped cream and coconut syrup and was inpregnant girl heaven.  We also went to Hula Grill for burgers (sooo good) and sat in the barefoot bar with live Hawaiian music playing… this was a great date night.

Overall a perfect trip!  Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us!  We’ll definitely be back with our little man once he is born.

        Aloha, Bryce and Michelle

Ray and Connie.  Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful condo with us once again.  Our daughter was with us the first week so we were pretty busy showing her all our favorite sites.  Bernie and her went on a whale watch and enjoyed it!  I’m not really a water & boat person so stayed back but did see a couple of whales from the lanai.  The neighbors above us would let us know when some were near!  We took the Discover Hawaii Road to Hana tour & their day trip to Pearl Harbor.  Their guides were excellent and gave us lots of info about the island.  For my 60th! – we went to Warren and Annabelle’s.  Enjoyed it so much the last time we were here & it was just as good this time.  Our daughter had a good time as well – we do recommend it for an evening of magic and humor!  We also took in the Atlantis Submarine ride & the Old Lahaina Luau.  Lindsay left the 7th.  We had a wonderful week of relaxing and enjoying the sunsets & water.  We did take a tour to see the Sunrise on Haleakala Crater.  It was VERY cold – we had jackets, pants, socks (on our hands) and blankets.  The sunrise was very exciting - coming from the prairies of Saskatchewan – we do have beautiful sunrises as well!  We ate in quite a bit – did enjoy Cheeseburger in Paradise.  I think the highlight of the visit (for me) was seeing 3 turtles basking in the sun one afternoon.  From the comments we heard a rarity!  The turtles are such amazing creatures!

Loved it here and look forward to coming back again real soon!!

Ray and Connie.  Have packed a lot into our visit here.  Drinks and dinner at Kimo’s watching the sunset over Lanai the first evening here.  Fish were Mahi Mahi and Monchong excellently prepared.  Headed to the beach in Kapalua early next day.  Found a neat little market in Napili on the way back to Sunset Central that had prepared a salad of Poke, octopus, mussels and shrimp.  This mad a nice lunch right here on the lanai.  Enjoyed the ambiance right here until dinner time at Whaler’s Village.  Excellent Mai Tai’s at Hula Grill with live music and early bird dinner at Maui Fish and Pasta.  Swordfish for Bob and a salad and grilled shrimp and corn ravioli with pesto for Dianne.  Excellent.  Wednesday gave us an idea of the variation around the island with Valley Land Excursions to Hana and around the land through Haleakala National Park and the O Gulch to swim.   We were glad we did not decide to drive it ourselves as it is not for the feint hearted.  (See previous renter comments)  Breathtaking views and lots of local information re: vegetation history language with our driver.  Well worth the $$  If booking on line you can get a discount.  They pick you up early in morning at the end of the driveway.

Since the Feast of Lele was cancelled for Thursday evening we decided to do our beach time on the South Shore. Wailea and getting to know that area.  Great cocktails in the evening at Four Seasons for sunset and dinner at Thai Food Cuisine in Maui Kahuluh Mall in Kihei.  Good value and excellent service and food.  See the Maui Ocean Art store id up that way in mall.  Unusual coral and preserved sea life.  Tomorrow we are off to the Big Island for the second leg of our 3 week, four island sojourn.  Looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the beach here today.

Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise with us.  It was great!

Ray and Connie.  Arrived around 5:30 after two long flights & stopping at Costco to stock up for two weeks.  Enjoyed our first sunset within an hour on the lanai with a few cold ones.  Absolute heaven.

Went shopping at Lahaina and Whaler’s village.  All very nice.  Drove the Road to Hana (thanks for having the CD) and on the return trip stayed on Hana HWY 4 took the long way home.  Sights were breathtaking!  Not a drive for the light hearted … but worth it.  Did The Feast of Lele and what a feast.  Private table to help us celebrate our 36th anniversary.  Dancers were amazing.  Great place to go.  Had lunch at Cheeseburger in Paradise in Lahaina.  Typical food but view makes it a wonderful experience.  Did some shopping at Whaler’s Village (Debbie likes Pandora) & had some drinks at Hula Grill.  Live entertainment & more breathtaking views.  What an awesome place.   Friday night town party in Lahaina – lots of live entertainment.  Had a few drinks at Cool Cat Café.  Neat place.  Had breakfast at Gazebo – a must.  Their famous Macadamia, banana, white chocolate (and not sure what else) pancakes were worth the short wait in line.  Denver omelets are also delicious.  Renewed our vows on the beach & then had a great dinner at Leilani’s in Whaler’s village.  Snorkeling was great right in front of condo.  Hundreds of fish.  The sea turtles were also here almost every day and one laid on beach by the stairs.  It was huge.  Very fun.  Sea house is another great restaurant just up the road in Napili Bay.  Awesome food and views.  Service was slow but we weren’t in a hurry so didn’t care.  17 wonderful days.

Thanks Ray and Connie for sharing your place.  We will return.

Ray.   Thank you for sharing your place with me and my son, Raymond.  We took good care of your place.  It seems like we were only here to sleep although we caught several sunsets.  We got in 16 dives, went to Oahu, Haleakala, Hana and lots of places.  A round of golf at Wailea.  The USS Arizona and Haleakala were closed because of the government shutdown.  But it was still fun.  The highlight was I got attacked by a white tip shark at Mala pier on a night dive.  I had my go pro and got most of it on camera.  All he got was my fin.  Thanks again for a memorable stay.  I hope to be your neighbor one day when I retire.

Ray and Connie.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  What an awesome home away from home ~ doesn’t get any better than this.

Saw lots of turtles, rock crabs, and to die-for sunsets.  What a way of life!  Had lots of food at many different spots, but, by far Kimo’s was the best!  The best cheeseburger we have ever eaten.  Had Mahi Mahi and Ono for dinner last night – best meal of the entire trip!  Okazuya take out is fabulous.  Had the Mongolian beef – wonderful and enough for two.  Best shave ice is Ululani’s in Kihei.  Much better than one in Lahaina.

All in all we’ve had a wonderful time.  A lot of eating and vegging.  Oh, and shipping too.  Drinks at Kapalua Plantation Course were wonderful – great people there too!

Thanks again for sharing this paradise ~

Nick and I had a fabulous time on our first trip to Maui together. Ray and Connie -  we love your place.  We love being right on the water – and this place is pretty peaceful – great views – lots of sea turtle sightings.  August in Maui is hot enough and having no air conditions was pretty tough at times, but the extra fan was nice.  I considered buying a second and extension cord for better air flow.  When we come back I think we will pick a month besides August.  (Owner note: We have a 20” portable fan in the closet)

What did we do?  We snorkeled a lot.  We rented our gear for the week from Boss Frog’s.  They gave us $5.00 off and let us keep the gear for the entire trip instead of just 7 days.  We saw so many seat turtles including several that would relax on the beach in the afternoon.  My favorite place to snorkel was at the Molokini Crater.  We took the Kai Kanani Sailing Charter that leaves shore at 6:30 a.m. from Makenna Beach & Golf Resort.  It’s only about 3 miles from the crater so you are the first boat to get there.  It’s so beautiful.  As Kai Kanani sails away 100’s of people begin arriving.  You can see boats packed with people headed straight there.  Second stop turtle cove where we saw tons of turtles and a manta ray.

We picked one Luau for the experience.  The Feast at Lele.  Entertainment was great.  You’re seated with just your party and dished served rather than buffet style.  It’s literally right on the beach.  Unlimited alcohol drinks are yummy.  Dishes are mostly seafood which I am not a fan of but they will bring you more of whatever you like.

We had dinner at Kimo’s in Lahaina.  Call for reservation.  We got the best seat in the house.  You feel like you are sailing in the ocean.  Nick got swordfish – he loved it.

We had a lot of shaved ice.  We tried Shaka Shave Ice, Ululani’s and Local Boys.  Ululani has it down.  Ice is like snow, flavor all the way through (no white) and equal parts of each flavor.  Local Boys is a close second.  Shaka – skip it – the other two are better.

We snorkeled at Napili Bay.  Definitely recommend.  There is a small public access trail to the beach.  Gets deep fast and is calm.

Nick wind surfed at Action Sports back by the airport.  He enjoyed it.  We surfed with Goofy foot School of Surfing.  Great experience.  We ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise.  Just fine.  Kinda fun. Live music.  We ate dinner at Star Noodle.  Just fine, we have a lot of good Asian Fusion in Seattle, so it wasn’t anything special.  We did the sunrise at Haleakala.  Go early.  Like leave here before 3 a.m.  We go there about 4:45 a.m. and the summit parking lot was full so we were at the next parking lot down which is still pretty but it is where all the tour busses are, so it’s packed which kinda took away from the magic.  Wear every article of clothing you packed.  The wind is bone chilling.  We had take out from Okazuya per Ray and Connie.  Nick had Kung Pao Chicken.  I had chicken Katsu.  The Katsu is enough for 2 people. (it was good but pretty fatty)  Nick though Kung Pao was just OK.  I would try them again though.  Not sure what we will do tomorrow, our last day, but it will probably involve snorkeling.

We had a blast.  Thanks R & C.  We appreciated the phone call from Ray checking in on how it was going.  We bought too many groceries even though we ate in a lot.  Until next time –

Ray and Connie, Thank you for the use of your lovely home.  We spent our first week in Kihei and did all the things on the Haleakala side of Maui.  We visited La Perouse Bay since we like hiking around on the lava fields.  We went to the summit of the volcano which is always fabulous to view.  Ate twice at the Hanna Ho restaurant in Haiku since it is one of our favorite places to eat.  Did the Road to Hana, came all the way around and stopped at the Winery.  Visited the Ocean Center and spent some time at Kookipa Beach watching the surfers.  Ate in Paia twice, Milagros and the Flatbread Co.  We did the Piiholo Ranch Zip line and it was a blast.  Highly recommend it.

We came around the West side and ate at Okazuya Deli.  I had the Mahi Mahi as per your suggestion and it was very good.  We have been enjoying the beach here very much.  We have seen so many turtles, fish & I saw a small Ray and a 4’ pink moray eel at the South end of the sea wall.  I stepped on a sea urchin during low tide.  Very painful.  He got 4 toes.  I soaked it in vinegar and that helped a lot.  Went to Old Lahaina Luau and it was very fun.  Even my 13 year old son liked it.

Today we visited the Dragon’s Teeth and the Blowhole then drove all the way around the West mountains.  Very scenic.  We ate at buzz’s Wharf in Maalea on the way home.  Pricey but good food.  Calamari was excellent.

Today we went on a dolphin watch cruise with the Pacific Whale Foundation & saw lots of dolphins.  Very nice raft cruise.  Ate lunch at Lahaina Fish Co.  Very good.

Fly out tomorrow night.  Thank you again for the use of your house.  It was like home away from home.  Very well stocked.  My son enjoyed the boards and snorkel mask at the beach.  Hope to be back soon.

Ray and Connie, Thank you for allowing us the privilege of staying in this amazing spot for our honeymoon.  It was wonderful being right on the beach and being able to see the sunset every night!  While we were here we were able to go to the Royal Lahaina Luau which had the most delicious food and traditional Hawaiian dancing.  The second day we were here there was a tropical storm which was really neat to watch from the comfort of the condo.  We just made it a chill day and did a little shopping and rented some movies from Premier Video just up the street.  On the following day we did a little more shopping and then took the Sunset Ride at Lahaina Stables (which is hard to find with Google maps and GPS so leave extra time to locate it.  The guide there was able to direct us pretty well by phone.  Once we got there it was great though; they guides were very nice and the horses they gave us actually had some spunk.  The view was really good once you get up into the foothills.  The horses were very sure footed and knew what they were doing. The next day we went into Lahaina Town for the Atlantis Submarine Tour.  It was really neat; they take you down to see fish, coral, sharks, sea stars and a shipwreck!  Then we drove part of the Road to Hana the next day.  It was beautiful but the road is very narrow so you have to drive very carefully.  We used the CD on the TV stand to help direct us and we were able to explore some magnificent spots (make sure you bring bug spray if you go hiking in the forest)  For the next day we got up around 1:30 a.m. so we could watch the sunrise at Haleakala National Park.  It is quite cold at the top so bring lots of clothing to layer up with and a blanket but the sight of the sunrise across the cloud and volcanoes is spectacular!  We also went to Cool Cat Café that night and the food was delicious but very filling; the best burgers we have had!  Our last day we spent packing our gear and spending a bit of time at the beach.  The beach here is so nice, throughout our stay we have been able to do snorkeling, swimming, boogie boarding, and see lots of sea turtles here.  Thank you for letting us use this fantastic location, we hope to be back soon!

Ray and Connie!  We couldn’t have picked a better spot to spend our honeymoon!  It was so nice to be able to walk to and from the beach whenever we liked.  Your condo is so warm and had everything we needed for our week stay!  Are all time favorite was Star Noodle.  It isn’t in many of the guide books but it is amazing.  We recommend making a reservation or calling ahead to put your name one the list!  We traveled the Road to Hana our second day here.  It took 12 hours to drive all the around w/stops along the way.  We recommend doing this early because it is exhausting!  Julia’s banana bread and the Sacred 7 Pools were our favorite spots!  We went to Mama’s Fish House one night.  It is a little more expensive but so worth the experience and the views!  We had an earlier dinner around 4:30; it was less busy but we did make reservations.  If you are a coffee lover like we are visit the Maui Grown Company Coffee Store, they allow you to do a free tasting J  in town for a quick bite to eat we loved “Cilantro” – (tacos and Mexican food) “Local Food” hole in the wall stand.  BBQ pork sandwich is amazing “Lahaina Pizza Company” great deep dish pizza!  We didn’t love Ohana Tacos, service was bad and food was cold.  Thank you again for allowing us to capture so many memories here.  We will be back to stay @ the best condo in Maui very soon!

Thank you Connie and Ray for the use of such a lovely, lovely spot!  Our 25th anniversary is the event that brought us here.  We had our daily “commune” with the turtles right off the sea wall.  Our adventures included Lahaina Town, Honoloa Bay, Napili Bay, Kaanapali & Whaler’s Village, Wailea, Makena, Haleakala, and we are off to Blow Hole tomorrow. And I need to also mention Iao Valley which was as gorgeous as the beach adventures.  Old Lahaina Luau was beautiful and well done.  Warren and Annabelle’s was so much fun!  So glad we took in that show!  Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina was delicious (lunched there) & Happy Hour at Leilani’s was a delightful spot (food and service jus ok but hey, it was Happy Hour)  We haven’t decided where our last will be… probably Lahaina.  We ate our breakfasts here, packed picnic lunches for our adventures and grilled dinner 2-3 times as well.  So pleased to have stayed oceanfront.

        Mahalo, Ina and Dave

P.S. Our friends stopped by for a visit – loved the setting as well!  We are meeting them for dinner at Kimo’s tonight then back to “real life” tomorrow morning J

Well another wonderful stay at Sunset Central!  This was our 4th stay here!  Thank you Ray and Connie for sharing your place with us!  We did not do much swimming at the beach here.  The swells were rough the whole time!  Did see lots of turtles and enjoyed the lanai.  We went to Kapalua for snorkeling.  Lots of fish.  Also down in Kaanapali large swells!  Yikes! We went to Kihei and got great beaches at Kam II.  Big Beach was a no go.  They were rescuing people off the swells coming in.  16 in one day – (people)

We did the usual Sansei Sushi.  Wonderful! We ate here at the condo with grilled fish and filets from Costco!

We left two boogie boards in closet.  I am sure someone will enjoy them!!  Thanks again.  We will be back in June 2015!! Every two years! J

        The Aguilar’s, Tempe Arizona

P.S. We are off to Hana for 4 days and back home!

06/18/13 to 06/25/13 Stay: Guest Book Comments

Our third stay at Sunset Central did not disappoint!!  Finally saw Warren and Annabelle Magic show.  Tons of laugh out louds and mind boggling magic made for a great night out!  Recommend you have dinner elsewhere before the show and save some room for dessert at the shown – excellent dessert selection, will be hard to choose.

Of course we spent more time perfecting our self-made sport of kayak surfing.  Only one reef (white tip) shark sighting this trip.  Highly recommend renting kayaks at Camp Olowalu – 5ish miles South of Lahaina town.  Very relaxed.  Jim can set you up with a “two hour” rental (although no clock can be found) or Barry can lead you on a guided tour.  If you don’t like reef sharks avoid the cover about 5 minutes by paddle on the right!!  Or stay 25-30 yards off shoreline as they like to feed in shallow areas.

Ohana tacos are still our fave!  And Okazuya takeout Korean style chicken BBQ is awesome.  These 2 places are n same complex.

Snorkel trip to Molokini – this time we took the catamaran Parragon.  “It was a rough day at see my friends.”  Not a good day for fish sightings at Molokini.  I guess they didn’t get the memo we were coming.  It’s hit and miss out there.  Would do Molikini again next time but take the bigger boat.  Less Dramamine required.

We were fortunate to meet Ray & Connie on this trip – WONDERFUL people.  Great to have your friendship.  Thank you for a much needed – much enjoyed week at Sunset Central.

06/14/13 to 06/18/13 Stay: Guest Book Comments

Ray and Connie (owners) here.  I am BBQ’ing a rib eye steak to make sandwiches for our flight tomorrow a.m.  Something we started to do years ago.  This has been an unusual trip but a good one for us.  We missed our end of April to mid-May trip.  Only had 4 days open after that so we stayed in our condo and rented our neighbors for another week.  Did not realize that staying elsewhere would force us to actually vacation vs. working on our condo.

One nice benefit was to meet two of our guests. (They have stayed several times before)

On this stay I snorkeled two times in front of our condo ~150 yards out and the schools of large fish were the best ever.  Not sure why.  Time of year? (June) or sand levels?  Visibility about 40 feet or so.

Went to Maui fish and Pasta (formerly Cane and Taro) on Wed. 1/2 off on everything 5-6 p.m. and had another great meal on Connie’s BD.  Went to happy Hour at Outback. (Now out of business)  Went to Paia Fish Market for lunch.  I had Ahi burger again.  Great.  Connie had Opakapaka burger.  Not as good as Mahi Mahi burgers she has had in past.  Great place to go if you are in the area.  We had to meals at Okazuya.  As good as ever.  We like Mahi Mahi with Lemon Caper, BBQ steak and BBQ chicken.

Got some important cleaning done in condo.  Carpet cleaning etc.  While we were here the shower broke and got it fixed just before our guests showed up.

This is a very unique place.  3 good sunset out of 10.  1 dud.  Rest average but we like average too.

Look forward to coming back on New Year’s.  We are booked to June 2014.  It is wise to reserve well in advance.

        Aloha, Ray and Connie

Our 2 week stay has been absolutely wonderful.  We have truly enjoyed the sunsets, the beach and weather.  Thank you to all of the supplies left behind by previous tenants – they came in handy during our stay.
This being our 2nd trip to Maui we were able to do some activities off the beaten path including the Lavendar Farm and Surfing Goat Dairy.  Even better we were able to relax at the condo, watching the turtles, snorkeling, playing cards and visiting with some of the other tenants. We even tried stand up paddling for the first time!
We visited a few old favorite (and now new  favorite) restaurants – Maui Tacos, Paia fish Market, Star Noodle, Coconuts, Flat Bread  Pizza co., Maui Brewing Co., Ono Tacos.  We recommend them all but also suggest (reading the book in the closet) on Maui restaurants.
Thank you for sharing your WONDERFUL Condo

We had a wonderful time staying at Sunset Central for our 30thAnniversary.  We enjoyed our 25th here, we decided to return.  Clean, comfy, and the view – No Ko Oe (spelling?) We ate our way through Maui – at least 1 meal a day.  Returned to our faves Hula grill & 5 Palms (in Kihei).  Also ate at Kimo’s, KOA, Okazuya down the street.  Oh also Longhi’s in Wailea.  Of the new ones to(to us) we ate at, liked Kimo’s best.  Flies were extra annoying at Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina.  Ate anniversary lunch at Mama’s Fish House, a once in a lifetime experience for special occasion in part due to  $$$$.

Shops to recommend – any Maui hands location for quality hand made works by local artists and Maui Clothing co.

Saw pod of whales playing one morning but most have gone North.

          Until we meet again.

We couldn’t have found a better, more comfortable, cleaner place on Maui.  We loved the sunsets, whale watching from the lanai and being so close to the ocean.  Sitting on the lanai with our morning coffee and watching the whale was superb!

We did the Road to Hana with a stop for breakfast at Anthony’s in Paia.  We also did the Old Lahaina Luau (loved it, whale watch tour (with Pacific Whale foundation)dinner at Longhis, Maui Ocean Center and snorkeled four times.  All in just 6 days.  We need to come back again.

          Aloha Ray & Connie –

We are finishing up our two week stay @ Sunset Central with a whale breaching right out front of the lanai.  Closest one yet right where the water turns dark blue.  Thank you for sharing your slice of paradise with us.  Since there were a total of 15 staying at various places because of our daughter’s wedding we cooked out many times to cut down on expenses.  Thank you Costco!! (:  Terry and I did go to Sansei – Most excellent Sushi!! Aloha Mixed Plate, Hulsa Grill has the best Happy Hour for the juice and we tried several.  Dukes for Happy our and also for breakfast, Moose MCGillicuddy’s, Lahaina Pizza, Bubba Gumps and of course The Gazebo for out of this world pancakes! A MUST!!

We’ve enjoyed sitting watching the turtles and whales and the beauty of Molokai.  The weather was near perfect except for the day of the wedding, but have always heard it’s good luck for rain on wedding day.  Hamburger Paradise afterwards – wedding dress and all – HAHA!  What fun!!  OH! And best hamburger ever – Cook Cats!!  Yummo!!

Thank you again and we hope to return in years to come.

          Warm regards

Aloha R & C! Two days on the lanai and we re-booked!  As we have been coming to Maui since the 80’s & have done a lot as advertised and are now in relaxation mode – mostly from Sunset!”  We have enjoyed Duke’s, Kimos’s, Hula grill, Fish and Pasta, Leilani’s & last night a beautiful table at Lahaina Prime Rib and Fish.  Both fish and drinks excellent!  We didn’t like the Vibe at Maui Brewing so left and ate at Kahana Grill.  Unimpressed!  Enjoyed the Hawaiian church service at the quaint Honokawaii Church.  Reserve dinner tables when you can for best seating options.  Had a cocktail rooftop at Fleetwood’s and want to return for the sunset ceremony.  Picked up dinner from Java Jazz, Fish Mkt, & Okazuya’s.  All good but felt Fish Mkt’s two soups were over seasoned.  Bought some nice jewelry at a big Arts and Crafts faire yesterday at Civic Center.  Concluded with Old Lahaina Luau, our favorite of the 4 we’ve tried.

          Aloha Ray + Connie!

After a 4 year hiatus is was so good to be back in Maui – Spent first 2 weeks in Kihei but this side, No Ka Oi!  Love the condo and look forward to being back for a little over 5 weeks.  Lots of whales and turtles.  Favorite eating places?  Mama’s Fish House, Sansei (got to go twice) Hula Grill and Da Kitchen.  Swap meet at Maui Comm. College was fun.  In Lahaina Bubba Gumps is a great place for a beer and a bucket of shrimp.  Back to Colorado but so looking forward to come spending time here.

Such a small world & do tell Ted hello from us.  Ken remembers him and has such great respect for him.  “A good man with integrity”  (Owner note: we are from CA and Ken has an unusual last name and from Colorado.  A asked him if he was related to someone and he said yes, that is my son.  And from business long ago he remembered my Dad.  Quite a coincidence)

Thanks for sharing your slice of paradise!!  We’ve enjoyed our stay immensely!  Seeing the huge sea turtle on the beach was a bonus.  Oh, and the wales breeching about 250 yards out while eating lunch on our lanai!  Beautiful view at all times!

Restaurants we enjoyed were; Fleetwoods in Lahaina, Aloha Mixed Plate, Mala, Lahaina Prime Rib & Fish!  All very good!!! Lulu’s as well.  Thanks for letting us enjoy your condo!  Will recommend to friends and family, maybe!

Great condo just loved it.  Weather OK very windy.  Don’t go fishing on certain boats.  We caught nothing!  Do your homework. (Owner note:  We have heard that  Captain Fuzzy is the best fishing charter but you leave at 1 on the morning or so.  You catch your bait and start catching fish when other charters are just leaving the dock.  Make sure Captain Fuzzy is on the boat and not on vacation etc.  Good advice to do your research.  Do not go with low price.  My son struck out doing this)  Go to Wailea.  Beaches are great.  Lots of whales.  Have fun!

            Aloha Ray and Connie!

What a perfect slice of heaven you have!  I’m so grateful to have been fortunate enough to experience the peaceful serenity offered here.

Made the trek up the coast road to get some of Julia’s banana bread yesterday – it is not a trip for the faint of heart but it was a spectacular journey – glorious views at every turn.  I took the Molokini trip and tried SNUBA – highly recommend TRILOGY EXCURSIONS!  Of to their trip to Lanai today and getting ready to welcome my husband to the island on Friday.  We’re going to do a whale watching cruise with Pacific Whale Foundation & the Flying Hawaiian Zip Line.

I am sorry I couldn’t have stayed here the entire week but I already look forward to my return to paradise at B-106.

On 1/3/13 we saw more rainbows than we have ever seen.  All kinds of them.  Took a few videos.  Might combine and make a Rainbow video.

Went to Paia Fish Market, 10 miles East of airport.  We are very upset.  Upset we waited so long to go there again.  Connie had the Mahi Mahi burger $9.50 and it was the best Mahi Mahi sandwich I have ever tasted.  Large piece of fish with that wonderful char flavor.  I had an Ahi burger and it was fantastic.  Going back today. Connie is getting Mahi Mahi tacos and I will probably get Mahi Mhi burger. (I ended up getting Ahi burger again)

Found a 25% off coupon for Lulu’s and tried them again.  Not impressed like we used to be.  Went to Outback for Happy Hour.  Appetizers half off.  I had Ahi Sashimi, Connie had Calamari and we shared chicken wings.  All very good and brought some home.  I think Happy Hour is 4-7 pm.  We went to Mai Fish and Pasta, formerly Cane and Taro, twice.  Tues-Wed all food ½ off except a couple of items.  I enjoyd the 12 oz. Ribeye.  Connie enjoyed Shrimp cocktail, and Ahi Sashimi was fantastic.

Wrapping up and heading out tomorrow am.  We always feel good when we leave Sunset Central better than it was.  Don’t like packing to go home though.

We have stayed here probably six times.  This is the first time at Ray & Connie’s unit.  We have absolutely loved our 10 days here!  First of all this condo has everything we could need including re-usable grocery bags which I really appreciate.  You cannot beat the view and proximity to the ocean.  We visited a friend staying in Kihei and her place was nice, right on the ocean with a green space between condo and ocean – but it’s just not the same as returning here and sitting in lounge chairs where you can feel the splash of the waves.  We have watched turtles, whales and spinner dolphins from the sea wall.  (Our neighbors saw a monk seal swimming close by too!)

We mostly cooked hear but did have a great take-out from Okazuya tonight.

Basically we’ve visited different beaches on the island and snorkeled.  Le Perouse on the Kihei area and beyond makena Beach is not to be missed.  Well worth the drive for snorkeling.  We’ve also enjoyed the coastal walk from Kapalua to the Ritz Carlton and Fleming Beach, as well as Kaanapali boardwalk.  Snorkeling was also great at Napili Bay and Kapalua Bay.

          Aloha Connie and Ray,

Can’t hardly believe we made it back to Sunset Central!  After having to cancel our plans last year we can’t begin to tell you how much joy this trip brought us.  It was like “coming home”.  Such found memories of visits past and such anticipation of what was to come.

Thank you for sharing your home with us.  It is the perfect piece of paradise.  The fresh flowers were beautiful and appreciated.

We had a wonderful and relaxing trip.  I never tire of beauty and difference of each sunset.  Each night is special but tonight’s was spectacular!! Our last night!

Enjoyed our usual spots around town.  Farmers Market has the best pineapple salsa anywhere.

We took a gamble with a coupon and went to Kihei and tried a place called Pizza Madness on South Kihei Rd.  Great pizza!!  So good we went back a second time.  There’s a $5.00 coupon in the weekly Maui magazine.  It’s a large pizza but more than enough for 2 nights.  Small place, family oriented.  Their salads looked great too.

Words can’t express my appreciation of your kindness and support.  You are amazing people.

Hoping to see Sunset Central in the future!!  Thank you again for sharing your Maui Joy!  You’ve brightened the world.  You are good people!!

Saw many turtles off the beach from your lanai every day.  As jack was a first timer in Hawaii we did the usual tourist things…  Molokini snorkeling, Old Lahaina Luau, had a great time at both. We got the well deserved rest we came for and finished several books.

In our opinion this condo & location is by far the best.  Having a kitchen makes things much more relaxing than hotel as we did not have to clean up to go out.

Thanks again ray for all your info..

Golfed at Makena and Kahili.  Both were great value @ $69 & $59.  Rented clubs @  Views were fantastic.

From Ray and Connie(owners),

Where do we start?  First ever evacuation for us due to Tsunami Alert.  7.4 earthquake in Vancouver, Canada.  Thankfully nothing happened here.

Went to Mai Fish and Pasta, formerly Cane and Taro.  Still 50% off Tues. & Wed. 5-6 pm.  I had 12 oz. Ribeye  for $17.50.  It was great.  Brought some home.  Connie had Opah. A little overcooked.  Probably will be going back tomorrow night.  Went to Sansei.  Still great. 25% off 5:16 to 6 pm.  Go ½ hour early and stand in line.  Same owner as Maui fish and Pasta..  3 meals from Okazuya.  Mahi Mahi with lemon caper, BBQ Korean chicken, and Teriyaki steak.  Once again all good.  Went back to Maui Fish and Pasta.  Had ribeye again and Ono.  Both good. Calamari appetizer, Ahi Sashimi and beet salad were good too.

Saw our first ever Moonbow!  It is a white 180 degree arch rainbow that has a little color in.

Tine to go.

Hi Ray,

We just returned from our trip, wanted to thank you both for letting us stay at your wonderful condo.  I forgot to sign the guest book but wanted to say thank you.

Your suggestion for the Luau was awesome, we had such a great time there.  Food was good, entertainment as well.  I would also highly recommend it to anyone.

We also enjoyed swimming in the ocean with the turtles, WOW, pretty awesome.  Your condo was perfect.  Had everything we needed and the view is priceless.

         Thank you again,

Aloha Ray and Connie,

Thank you again for sharing our paradise with us. The weather was perfect, sunsets fantastic, all the relaxation needed, sounds of the Pacific help real good. Even the drive to North end to see Lorraine 7 have the best Shave Ice on the island, also the ice cream banana bread (new) was awesome, worth the drive. Lots of swimming and snorkeling. Saw lots of fish past wave break, many pictures of turtles and fish. Vog came in last day but oh well that’s what happens on volcanoes.

Til next year, we are already counting the days.

Dear Ray and Connie,

Thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven with us. This was a great way to celebrate our anniversary, my birthday and the end of summer. We didn’t have any expectations going into this as we had never rented a condo before. The place more than exceeded everything we thought it would be. The view is absolutely amazing and it was nice and quiet throughout our trip. This was our second trip to Maui.

We enjoyed going up Haleakala, although we did not get up early, but still so beautiful. We went snorkeling just outside the condo and at Honolua Bay. We decided to do the Road to Hana again. This was probably our last time. It was worth it the first time. Our favorite part of the trip was stand up boarding in Kihei at Cove Beach.

We did a lot of eating as well. Kihei Caffee was excellent as always. We also had breakfast at java jazz and they were good as well. We got coffee at Bad Ass coffee most mornings. We frequented the local taco places.. all were tasty. For dinner we went to Cheeseburger in Paradise, Bubba Gump Shrimp House and the Hula Grill. We liked all of them. We also enjoyed cooking here at the condo.

I can’t believe we are leaving today. Thank you again for everything. We hope to return in the near future.

Dear Ray and Connie,

Thanks for such a wonderful place to stay. Private, comfortable and the ocean view is amazing.  We especially enjoyed visiting the Olivine pools, snorkeling at Kahekili Beach Park, and the Feast of Lele Luau dinner.  This was our first time to Hawaii and it did not disappoint. The perfect way to spend our 7 year anniversary.

Dear Ray and Connie,

This is Bob of Carmen and Bob from North Port FL, here for our 10thanniversary. Just wanted you to know how thrilled we are to be here at Sunset Central. So far we have biked down the Volcano, snorkeled with the turtles. P.S. our favorite place is right in front. Lot of fish and turtles with no crowds. We did the Road to Hana the hard way. (Don’t recommend it) especially to iffy driver. Went around the North Shore to Kapalua  to Whihue.  Made the Hana road look like a highway. Very intimidating! Major pucker factor!!  We are going to finish with a zip line after check out and before flight. (wish us good luck) Ate many meals on the Lanai. Loved it. Waves breaking at night. Loved it. Hope we can get back again someday.

This is Carmen of Bob and Carmen. We also took the Reef Dancer Glass bottom boat trip. It was interesting.  Especially great for families with kids or those who do not want to get in the water. Otherwise just snorkel right here.  Just watch out for the sea urchins.  They are poisonous and plentiful.  After the boat trip we went to the Maui Ocean Center.  That was amazing. The presenters were fabulous and the displays incredible. Definitely recommend it. Also for scrap bookers you have to go to the Island Papiere.  Look at all of the TO DO or Maui This Week magazines.  They have different ads  and you can get adorable cutouts with a purchase and those ads. They are extremely helpful. The selection of all Hawaii stuff is amazing & they let you take photos. With over 500 photos so far I sure to be scrap booking this trip for a while.

Thank you Ray and Connie for sharing such a beautiful home base for our week of fun on Maui!

Connie & Ray,

What a wonderful stay we have had at Sunset Central! We have lived well here the past week.

The Feast at Lele is a great luau if you aren’t into the buffet style of dining!  We snorkeled at Molokini but found better sights, right here in front of the condo! Rent a Harley! It was a blast. A helicopter ride is not to be missed.  We took over 100 pics in less than an hour.

We did have some nice quiet times in the evenings as well, just a peaceful balance of activities, relaxation!

What a great way to spend our honeymoon! We loved it here! Will return to Sunset Central!

Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

Dear Connie and Ray,

Here you are on your 3rd guest book! Can you believe it? We looked back and read our entry for August 2009.  That was a fun stay with our Seattle son. This time we are alone and and had a much quieter time.

Although we are from San Diego, our busy life does not give us time to relax right by the ocean.  Your condo is just super.

Enjoyed swimming with the turtles right out in front of the condo—no need to travel.

We enjoyed our visits to Lanai – the small library is great there with some super DVD’s to check out. One of our favorite things to do while here is to watch the lighting of the torches at Sheraton Hotel at Kaanapali and then the dive off of the Black rock.  Go for drinks at Sheraton’s outdoor bar (need to be there between 3-5 for Happy Hour!).  Sunset is when they light the torches.  Great photo op.

We also enjoyed walking to Bad Ass for coffee most mornings and walking along the park/beach area. Nice walk South of here.

Also great to relax here at the condo & read & listen to/watch the ocean!!

Mahalo for allowing us to share your Sunset Central.

Wonderful vacation! Staying here was divine – homey, convenient and beautiful!  Fun having the little beach in front of the condo! The view and the sound always captivating!  We really enjoyed the dolphin trip by PWF & tons of dolphins.  The other big highlight was the Scotch Mist sailing trip – sailing was terrific & crew outstanding.  As always loved our visit to Maui & especially staying here.  Super place and so peaceful! Thanks form making it so comfortable and homey.

Our time here has been absolutely blessed.  Turtles, rainbows, every shade of turquoise, water… I am renewed on deep levels and grateful to have slept every night to the sound of the crashing surf. We loved our stay at Sunset Central, homey and private and right on the beach! The trip to Lanai to see the spinner dolphins is definitely worth it.

May we bring this peace back with us to the mainland!

Blessings and Mahalo!

Ray and Connie,

Craig and I are just wrapping up our week in Maui and could not have stayed at a more perfect place.  Watching the sunset nightly over the water right in front of the condo is something we never get to see in Columbus, Ohio. We went on many outdoor excursions, venturing off on our own in search of “Olivine Pools” and hidden waterfalls on the Road to Hana.  The “Maui Revealed” book came in very handy as we were able to hit all the hot spots to see Maui in one short week. Tomorrow we plan to wake up by 3 am to drive to the famous Haleakala to see the sunrise before we head to the airport.  Maybe getting up early will help ease the transition back to the Eastern time zone.  All in all, after snorkeling, taking the Road to Hana, exploring the Olive Pools, shopping, going to the Royal Lahaina Luau, going to drive up the volcano, and of course maybe lying on the beach a little too, we had an amazing trip.

Thanks again,

Meredith and Craig

A little more to add to the previous page (this is Craig) I just wanted to recommend a few activities including snorkeling at Honolua Bay which is just a 10 minute drive North up Hwy 30 and make sure to park at the second hairpin turn.  Also if you are interested in seeing natural wonders continue on Hwy 30 North to Nakalele Blow Hole.  It is amazing.  About 5 miles past Nakalele is the coolest little village set back in the mountains of KahaKuloa… make sure you stop and buy as many loaves of banana bread  from Julie’s Banana Bread Stand (it is a small lime green building.  You can’t miss it)  It’s known as the best banana bread on the planet!

We also recommend CJ’s if you want a good breakfast.  It’s just off Kekaa Rd. right off Hwy 30

And if you are looking to rent a motorcycle try Aloha Motorsports.

Thank you very much Ray and Connie for letting us stay at your beautiful condo.  We had a great time.

Ray and Connie,

Mahalo for sharing your beautiful condo with us.

We enjoyed something new every day, from the turtles on the beach to amazing sunsets, and casual rain which gave us beautiful rainbows.

We appreciated all of the reviews on the “foodies page”.  We especially loved the made-to-order poke at the fresh fish market as well as Okazuya and the mixed plate.

Daily we ventured out to discover Maui.  We drove the Hana Highway and shared a wonderful shaved ice at “Halfway to Hana” refreshment stand.  We hiked a lot of beautiful trails and bought “Julies famous banana bread”.  We took a whale watch tour and saw Mama and her 3 week old calf playing, which gave us great photos…

The best of all though was the “Flyin Hawaiian” zip line which has 8 exciting zip lines, one zip sending you at a speed of 60 mph at 3500 ft.  The experience is not only thrilling, but the company supports the eco system on the island.  We highly recommend this excursion!!!

Hopefully in the future we will be blessed to visit Maui and your wonderful condo again.

Happy Easter

Dear Ray and Connie,

Thanks again for a wonderful week at Sunset Central! Did some new things this year. Def recommend snorkeling trip to Molokini -  awesome visibility and fish but the extended trip to Lanai was a bit rough. (Dramamine is a must if you have in your fear bag)  Rented kayaks and had a blast, ”Kayak Surfing”! (A sport we came up with last time were here, although we haven’t seemed to catch up with the locals yet, it’s a total blast.

Loved the Korean style BBQ chicken at Okazuyas and the tacos at the Mexican place just 2 doors down on the left.  And Diana once again had the delectable Ono at Bubba Gumps.  We highly recommend the soft tacos at Milagres n Paia’s cool hippie town.

Lastly there were plenty of whales this week and had the real treat of kayaking with a large group of reef sharks!  We will look forward to our next visit!

Ray and Connie,

Thanks again for sharing your Maui home with us.  This is our third trip and I know we will be back. A few new ideas this trip.

Ferry to Molokai with tow about.  $200+ per person (inc. $67 one way)  I found the trip very interesting.  It is a very different island! Next time I would rent a car and maybe spend a night or two. (no more needed than that)Rented road bike from West Maui Cycle. Be prepared for a rough ride back, turned green.

I rode the West Maui Loop, 65 miles with hills, spectacular and challenging.  Loved it so much to I’ao I did it twice. (2nd trip Mike picked me up in I’ao.  Mike enjoyed several hikes in this secluded park.

Whale sightings from Lanai have dwindled.  We may have caught the tail end of the season.

Last day hiked in Polipoli Spring Park ~40 drive on one lane and dirt road from Kula.  Rugged trail, beautiful redwoods, good birding, very challenging.  Great lunch and view from Kula Lodge. Awesome pizza.

Record 4 takeouts from the deli! Ohana Tacos was great!

Until next time Cynthia and Mike

Aloha Ray and Connie,

Thank you again for sharing “Sunset Central”. Unfortunately due to my friends illness on the 4th day our trip did not turn out the way we planned, but we are both so thankful to have had such a beautiful, restful place to stay.  Just watching the whales and turtles made the trip worthwhile. I firmly believe that the worst day in Hawaii (or more specifically Sunset Central) is better than the best day place anyplace else.

With young granddaughters to visit us in New Hampshire we can’t get here as often as we would like, but hopefully my husband and I will be back before too long.

Many Mahalos.

Of course Maui was perfect as well the water was rough but warm and we swam every day.

We caught the little Gecko lizard in the bedroom and set him free in the grass - hope you don’t mind. (he looked hungry)

Thank you for the fantastic accommodations!  I cooked a ton and the kitchen was set up perfect.  It was the first time to bake pizza in a corning ware 9x13 but it worked well.

The ocean was rough and the surf was high when we got here so we did most of our snorkeling in South Maui – particularly enjoyed Makena Landing/5 caves where we swam with 10 turtles on two different days.

We ate breakfast and dinner on Sunset Central’s Lanai.  What a delight.  Saw the little lizard twice.

We loved the blow hole… it performed awesome with the high tide and huge surf!

We are absolutely delighted with our condo.

Thank you so much for sharing your condo with us.  It was beautiful and very well equipped.  This is our first trip to Maui - but definitely won’t be the last.  A lot quieter than Oahu.  We are not really “water’ people – but having the ocean right outside our door & hearing the lull of the waves sure put us in a relaxing mood.  We got sucked in with a Timeshare Presentation the first day we were here.  Had some people not very happy with us – but we got $100 to spend & some great discounts on tours –eg- saved $245 on helicopter tour to Hana/Haleakala.  We drove the Road to Hana & it was incredible!  Went to Warren and Annabelle’s.  I would recommend to everyone.  Had some good laughs there.  The Aquarium was awesome as was the Plantation Tour.   Spent an afternoon in Paia -  ate at Flatbreads, very good pizza.  Enjoyed the food at Leiu’s and Kool cats.  Also went on the Submarine ride – as close to seeing fish underwater that we will get.  We truly enjoyed our stay here and are making plans for when we can come back.  Definitely much more relaxing & homey atmosphere than a hotel room.  (only had 1 Gecko on the living room wall!!)

We would like to thank you for allowing us to stay in your condo.  This was our first time to visit Maui and we have fallen in love with the island and the people here.

We are the “exploring” type.  We have driven all over the island putting 500+ miles on the rental car.  Our favorite place was Hana.  The Road to Hana has many beautiful sights along the way.

We were happy to have such a well stocked kitchen to cook in.  We did celebrate Thanksgiving at the Royal Ocean Terrace @ Kaanapali Beach Hotel.  Very good!  Also went to dinner at Pizza Madness in Kihei and FuLin in Lahaina.

We enjoyed the view from the lanai sighting many turtles, dolphins and whales.

We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary while here.

Thanks Ray and Connie for a wonderful condo.  We had to start our vacation out in a different unit as you did not have availability for the whole week.  Thanks for setting us up with Kim to rent the other unit the first 3 days we were here.  We were really busy on this trip.  We did several tours but the one that really stood out was the “Hike Maui” tour.  They took us to a private property for a whole day of hiking, swimming, and waterfalls.  Guide was very knowledgeable.  Very very nice dinner at Dukes which is 5 minutes away.  Food was great.  Atmosphere and vies were excellent!!  We did a day of snorkeling up at Black Rock.  Park in the free parking for beach access at the Sheraton which is at Kaanapali Beach Resorts.  Great snorkeling and plenty of fish by Black Rock.  You can even rent a little beach bungalow for $45.00 for the day.  Really enjoyed burgers at Kook Kats Lahaina on Front St.  Lots of great shops along Front St.  We are sad to leave and really appreciate your place Ray!!!  Thanks for wonderful vacation!  Also – got to snorkel with a few sea turtles off the sea wall right behind your unit.

We had a real nice time at Sunset Central.  We did rent a 2009 Toyota from Aloha Maui Vans.  They were fast picking us up at the airport, the car ran fine and the price was better than any other car rental.  We stopped at Safeway on the way to the condo and bought some things for dinner.  The outside grills are all so handy and never crowded.  We like to cook and eat at home so that is what we did most of the time.  The stores in the area make for a great walk each morning.  How can you beat eating dinner outside and watching the sunset.  Your condo is exactly as stated and pictured.  We loved going in the ocean on the boogie boards and enjoying the waves.  Thanks for a great time.

          Aloha Ray and Connie,

Could not ask for anything.  The view…  The condo was fabulous.  Lots of room just like home everything we needed for our stay PARADISE.  Lot of turtles almost got run over while snorkeling by (2) Green Turtles.  We were sorry that the whole beach moved North.  Wanted to go boogie boarding but the large board was broken so for the next guest we went and bought a brand new boards (still in wrapper)  Enjoy our gift to the next guest.

Went out to see the blow hole & found Lorraine’s Shaved Ice.  Made it thru the 1 lane Rd. to get there.  Very friendly people.  Lorraine & Guy showed us their wonderful property.  She has some gorgeous Quilt bed spreads.  Had to buy one, truly Hawaiian made worth the price compared to store bought $$$in town.  We have the most relaxing time here.  We cannot begin to tell how perfect it is at Sunset Central.  Going out to get some more pictures of everything and there is never enough time.  Betty and I were so relaxed all we can say is

A first:  Saw 3-5 spotted eagle rays right off the sea wall ~6p.m. two different nights.  I think they were mating.

A first: Scuba dived Honoloa Bay.  Fantastic.

A first: Went to Star Noodle that everyone has raved about.  Very good.  Cost more that Happy Hour discounted meals we usually do.

Canoes changed hands to Five Palms.  The place is dead.  Sunday jazz band moved to Black Angus 1 mile up the road in Kahana. (not the chain restaurant Black Angus)

Outback Happy Hour changed from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for last 2 years to 4-6 p.m.  Had Calamari, seared Ahi, and grilled BBQ shrimp (new),  All great and half off.  Went there 3X so that tells you something.

A first: Saw a muskrat at Mala ramp.  No snakes in Hawaii cuz of them.

Have seen the little 1-1/2” Gecko in the bathroom 3 times.  Good luck comes if you see one.  One little guy and one ~4” on lanai.  It makes us laugh when they squak.

Sunsets:  They are not over when the sun goes down.  We are becoming experts on West Maui sunsets.  Have watched 14 in a row.  I would say about 8 or 9 were best about 20 minutes after the sun went down to about 50 minutes after.  3 or more were very nice before the sun set.

We had ~10 days of large waves.  Some came over the sea wall and killed our grass.  Was disappointed to see that.  And they pushed our beach North.  First time since stair and sea wall repair 04/10 that you have to time the waves to walk in about 12” of water to get to the beach.  Wave direction is now back to normal and easy access is coming back.

Have to leave this morning.  Good vacationing to all!

Connie & Ray,

Thank you for another wonderful time at Sunset Central.  Three years ago we came here for our 25th anniversary.  Coming back for 28th.  We have experienced new things and have enjoyed stuff we did last time.  Snorkeling at Honoloa Bay was as wonderful as we remembered.  This time we did the Hana Highway (loved it!)  Did not like the ride around the back way coming home.  If you have a bad back not the road you want to take.  Enjoyed shopping in Paia.  Sunrise at Haleakala was breathtaking.  Couple of our favorite restaurants were Kool Cats and Lahaina Pizza.  Now we are on to Kuai for a week.  Hope we have as much fun as we have had here!

Thanks again.

Hi Ray and Connie,

This is our last night here, our last trip to the fish market to pick out the best fish to grill it on the beach, our last time swimming in the ocean, our last sunset... why is it that the last day brings on such love for a place? We have had 13 other nights just the same but this one is the day that we disregarded the sun hats and let our faces enjoy the sun, we had 2 fruity drinks with rum instead of one as the sun set, we  finally swam out beyond the reef, because tomorrow we will be back in San Francisco and  back to our normal business life.  We will return, and tomorrow before I board the plane I am going to swim out beyond the reef one more time.

Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

          Dear Ray & Connie,

Our second trip to Sunset Central and as before it was wonderful!  14 days a dream vacation.  Amazing snorkeling, finally swam with the sea turtles.  Most evenings we are right on the lanai watching the evening sunsets.  We drove to Wailea and found a great beach to snorkel. Someone told us it was “Turtle Town” and we did see turtles.  Best banana bread from Julia’s!  So yummy!  Thank you so much for sharing your home!

Eating we did the Sansei and the Kane and Taro’s new name is Fish Fish Fish for 50% off.  What a great deal!  Tried the Pizza/Sandwich/Greek place down by the grocery store.  It was good!  Really good!  Great gelato in there also.  We had a blast.  Thanks again.

We had a great trip. Everything we had hoped it would be. We ate all our meals out & the food was amazing. I can't get over shaved ice, no one has it in Calif. I guess. The condo was perfect & the view breathtaking. Loved having the beach right outside our door. Found a great church in Kaanapali. Kaanapali Beach Ministry, they meet at Leilani's on the Beach in Whalers Village. The service is 8:00 A.M. of Sundays. Also the Gazebo Restaurant at Napili Shore Resort was great.

          Thank you,

Wow!  We have had a great two weeks here.  “Sunset Central”  Many meals on the lanai, lots of swimming with the turtles!

Snorkeling Adventures: Honoloa Bay.  Had to return 3X.  Slaughterhouse Beach out around the point on the South end and in to the next little bay – Wonderful!  Turtles snorkeling every evening here.  Counted 12 one session.  Coral Gardens at No end of Kanapali.  Beach fabulous! (we parked at the little park just North of Honoa Kais resort across from the Times Market.

Seashore Walks: DT Fleming Beach Napili, Kapalua Beach, Honoa Kai Resort to Sheraton (Black Rock) trail ends further than that.  Kng’s road at La Perouse Bay. (went early, very windy, bring a scarf or bandana, hat blows right off!)

Restaurants: Star Noodle – excellent, fresh Pacific Asian.  Up the hill from Walgreen’s on the L side of main road into Lahaina.  I’ O” – excellent dinner, sunset, music from Luau next door.

Groceries: Can’t see it from the main road but Foodland Farms (different than the regular Foodland)  gourmet cheese center, great Poke selection, produce, wine.  It’s also on the l side going into Lahaina across from Cannery/Safeway, tucked back into the newere little shopping center.

Thank you Ray and Connie for such a wonderful, well equipped home for a base for many adventures.

          We’ll be back!

What a great view and listening to the waves was relaxing.

Be careful on beach.  Before noon ocean is much calmer.  We went around 5 pm and the waves were rough.  Guy who lives here says ocean is weird right now.

Ate at Aloha Mixed Plate.  The food was good and inexpensive.  It is next door to the Old Lahaina Luau.  They serve food and you hear the music.  Lahaina Luau and Aloha Mixed Plate owned by the same people.  Happy hour till 6 pm.

On to Hana for a couple of nights.

Thank you so much Ray & Connie for the use of your home which made for the best vacation ever.  We’ve been so comfortable here.  Breakfasts on the lanai were perfect.  We did see a couple of whales one morning.  In the evening the sunsets were awesome!!  Our favorite moment was the sunrise at Haleakala.  Absolutely breathtaking.  We also took a helicopter tour; well worth it.  Another highlight was the Road to Hana.  Great trip.  Would recommend all three things.  Also The Old Lahaina Luau was very good.  One other place worth seeing is the Kula Botanical Garden; beautiful flowers, plants and trees.

We’ll be taking many cherished memories home with us and hope to return one day.

          Thanks again.

Well this has felt like a real vacation.  Best one yet.  As we have made condo improvements over the years there are less mandatory changes to make.  This trip was deep cleaning and screen repair only.

Confirmed favorite place.  Cane and Taro’s, Whalers village, ½ off everything on menu, 5-6 pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Went 3 times.  6 fresh fish plates every night.  Went by at 3:30 and they did not know what the specials were.  Still did not have their fish.  We had “Whole Sea Bass fish” 3 times, filet mignon 8 oz. once, Ono once and lamb shank once.  All great!  Only could eat half the lamb shank.  Roy’s appetizers are half off every day 5-6 pm was great too.  Tonight will be our third visit.  Just 1 mile North. (moving to Kaanapali 12/1/11).  We heard Sands Hotel in Kahana has ½ off entrees 5-6pm.  Went by there one day and menu looked good and we heard it was good.  Next time.  Outback has ½ off appetizers every night 4-6 pm.  Had calamari,, 6 big coconut shrimp and blackened Ahi over lettuce.  5-6 dollars each.  Could not finish it.  Good deal for sure.

Snorkeled Honoloa Bay.  Little cloudy.  Visibility ~ 30 ft.  Lots of fish.  A turtle beached itself one day.  Tons of turtles on sea wall.  A native caught a fish off the sea wall with a throw net.  That was a first to see.

I expected more whales.  There were a few but you had to look around for them.  Heard the whale and dinner cruises go right up to them.

Time to go.  Luretta put finishing touches on our cleaning.  Sunset Central will be in best shape ever.

Ray & Connie, Thanks so much for letting us stay in your condo.  It was perfect for us.  We loved sitting on the patio and watching for the whales. (and one breached close in. It was spectacular)  Three huge turtles came right up on the beach and frequented the area just in front of the condo.  And at night we enjoyed watching the Geckos catching moths.         Although it was a bit windy for snorkeling, the weather and temperature were picture perfect as we enjoyed our meals on the patio.   Thanks again, John & Jane4/6/11 email: Thanks so much for letting us stay in your condo.  It was just what I wanted and you have it set up perfectly.  We enjoyed daily meals on the lanai, watching the whales, turtles and sunsets.  I'll definitely recommend your place to others.

Although pricey, a wonderful experience!!!We noticed all three of the beach chairs in your bedroom closet are broken. May want to replace or have the cleaning lady throw. What a terrific place to stay!  When we arrived we put down our bags and sat on the lanai.  Within 10 minutes we saw a whale breach 2 or 3 times.  Had whale sightings every day but not as spectacular.  Unfortunately my friend punctured her foot on a rock swimming.  Don’t let this stop you because there are only 1 or 2 rocks there.  Don’t know what happened.  It all seemed like part of he adventure until the doctor said she couldn’t go in water for 8-10 days when she got stitches out.  We’ll see…Leaving now for big island.  Enjoyed the IOA Needle and the Botanical Gardens.  Did some nice swimming and really enjoyed the lanai. Thanks for such a lovely experience.  A well stocked and beautiful place.

Thanks Ray and Connie for helping our family surprise us with their 40thanniversary wishes and gifts for us.  We were very surprised arriving with our daughter here & having flowers, champagne, card, gift certificate to Mama’s Fish House.  They said you were a big help Ray.       The week has gone by quickly but we packed a lot in.  Started by drinking the champagne and off to the Old Lahaina Luau the first evening.  Life is good.  Besides enjoying your condo and swimming usually twice a day we drove the single lane road on the North side.  Beautiful scenery, banana bread and coconut chip top (yummy!) @Kahakloa – then did a hike at Wahee Valley called the “Swinging Bridges Trail” It’s worth doing.  You have to park across some private property so the charge $6.00 per person.  Still worth it.  We took a snorkel trip on the “Ahi Nui” catamaran from Ma’alea Harbor to Turtle Town.  They treat you with great food and equipment and not too many people.  We were pleased with it.  We were lucky the day we drove to the crater.  The skies were clear and we had good views.  Stopped at Paia and had lunch at “Charlie’s” then on to Mama’s Fish House for dinner.  Expensive…Whew!  One large turtle entertained us by staying on the beach & sunning himself for a couple of hours one day here.  That was a treat to see him out of water.      Of course we enjoyed the sunsets that you brag about Ray and cans see why you do.  Lovely and beautiful.  I hope to come back someday.  Your condo worked perfectly for us.    Thanks, Gerald, Peggy & Sasha

From Ray and Connie (owners)  Got here and biggest waves we have ever seen here.  Unless the surfers are short the waves were 6-8 ft high.  Water is churned up.  Now 7 days later ocean is normal and beach is moving from past the stair to past our condo.  Went snorkeling and swam with 4 turtles in front of the condos South of us.  Visibility 30 feet = great.  Went snorkeling again and saw just one turtle.  Visibility about 10 feet.  Dove the back wall of Molokini.  My 3rd time.  Was a good dive.  I probably am done with boat dives.  Done them all.  May stick with shore dives.       Once again leaving condo in great shape.  Deep cleaned and added new fan in the bedroom. We are excited about our next guests coming here for their 40th anniversary.   They were surprised to find out their daughter is joining them.  They will be even more surprised to find out here will be champagne, flowers and a gift certificate to Mama’s. (most romantic restaurant on Maui)provided by their family and organized by sister, Kathy.       We discovered Roy’s happy hour specials.  4 items to choose from and menu changes every week. ½ price.  Great food!  Fun!  Roy’s is only 1 mile to the left out of our parking lot.  Go right at gas station and left  into shopping center.  Great ½ off pupus. Check out Maui Arts and Gifts store.  Great sale going on.  We are sorry to leave.  Happy Anniversary to Gerald and Peggy.

Aloha Ray and Connie,       We had such a wonderful stay at your condo.  The highlight of the trip was actually snorkeling on the beach here and also lying on the beach.  We enjoyed making friends with turtles and hope to do it again.  I recommend eating at the Pineapple Grill.  The pork chops, ribs and upside down pineapple cake are great.  Saturday night happy hour is from 8-10 p.m.  We also highly recommend Lucky Strike Fishing Charter in Lahaina.  We caught many fish and the staff (Ted & Cindy owners) are great.  Lastly we got some coupons out of the local rag for the Atlantis Sub in Lahaina which was also a lot of fun.  Hopefully we can make it back soon!!

Take care, Travis

Ray and Connie,         Your condo was everything we hoped for and so much more.  All of the extras such as boogie board, snorkel fins and mask, washer and dryer made our excursions around the island complete.  But most of all your beachfront location and view is a slice of heaven.  Many nights we sat on the rock wall and watched the sunsets.  One morning while drinking our coffee (Kona coffee that is) we saw a huge green sea turtle munching on the food stuck to the rocks while navigating the waves.  OMG he was huge!  We went up North to the Olivine Pools.  To climb down the rock wall to the ocean and swim in turquoise tide pools filled with tropical fish while massive waves crash 15 feet away up against the rocky sea wall is still thrilling.  The hike down to the sea is only for the fit though!  We went to Big Beach where all the boogie boarders and nudists go.  Two lifeguard stations man the beach at all times.  The Pacific Whale Foundation tour out to Lanai and Molikini was killer.  We saw over 200 spinner dolphins, 50 speckled dolphins, & two bottle nose dolphins.  Rarely are all three dolphins seen in one day.  We snorkeled at Molikini and saw the most fish of anywhere we snorkeled the whole trip.  All in all we had a super time.  Thank you for sharing your home away from home with us.  We take with us many fun memories of beautiful Maui and Sunset Central.

Aloha Ray and Connie,       We had a great second visit to Sunset Central.  Loved all the improvements to the condo.  Had a very wonderful time in Maui.  Snorkeled at Honoloa Bay, took Maui Adventure Raft trip to Lanai.  Went to Hana again & stopped at a couple of waterfalls on the way & cooled off at the Sacred Pools.  Drove the unpaved way back from Hana.  Scary but saved a lot of time.  Enjoyed the Ulalena show at the Maui Theatre. As always loved watching the sunset on the lanai, having breakfast and enjoying the views of the ocean & beach.  We saw four baby Manta Rays swimming on the surface by the rock wall.  Drove to Haleakala to see the sunrise.  Beautiful.  It was cold and windy. Thanks again for letting us use your wonderful condo.  Look forward to our next trip to Sunset Central.

Ray and Connie,Thank you so very much for allowing us to share your amazing view of the ocean.  We have had our wedding (Po’Olenalena Beach) and now he honeymoon begins.  It is so much more than we could have ever expected.  One day we saw 10 turtles.  Wow.  Monday nite we went to the Luau at the Hyatt. “VIP” It was pretty awesome.  They put on quite a show.  Went on a snorkel trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation.  They were so great, our crew was fun and the snorkel sites were amazing.  The wedding and honeymoon we had here in Maui was the most amazing thing for us.  Leaving Sunset Central brings tears to our eyes.  It’s the most beautiful place on the earth and we hope to bring our kids here someday!!

Thanks Ray and Connie for sharing your relaxing place with us.  What a fantastic location.  A great place to get away from all the business back home.  We had a low key time here.  We spent almost every day at the beach (except when I got fried on day 4!)  It was nice to have a little beach right here complete with turtles, good snorkeling, and fun waves (we had a lot this time)  We found Napili was the funnest “family” for our son (7). Fun waves and a lot of other kids to make friends with.  The happy hour at Napili Kai is from 2-5 and the pupus were excellent. ~$5 per plate.  You can literally eat and drink at the restaurant while the kids play at the beach (and still watch them)  The Road to Hana CD was informative but the Maui Revealed book in our closet includes many more hikes, waterfalls, and beaches that are not mentioned on the CD.  Like the “Blue Pool” fantastic.  We ate a lot of fresh fish from the Fish Market and the Times Grocery Store and all was excellent.  The Farmer’s Market Store actually had good prices.  Sometimes even better than the Times Market.  We never got tired of having the ocean right outside our window and enjoyed many sunset meals with a million dollar view right here.  Thank you for sharing Sunset Central with us.

Our first trip to Maui and what a great introduction.  Great location here in Lahaina, beautiful shoreline and view.  During our visit we enjoyed the Road to Hana, and continued around the entire Eastern lobe of Maui.  Beautiful and starkly different from the North side.  We joined some friends for a tour around the entire Western lobe of Maui while enjoying the Blow Hole, the very narrowly winding roads and a hike along the Indiana Jones suspended roads.  America II (America’s Cup Challenger, 1987) was a fantastic experience ($38) Be prepared to get wet.  Sunshine helicopter tour of Molokai and reef was amazing.  Eating was fabulous (Check out Mala on Front St. and Star Noodle up the hill from Lahaina) but excellent restaurants.  Sansei was great as well.  Looking forward to another year here. Be sure to say good morning to the sea turtles off the wall each morning.

Ray& Connie,Just want to thank you so much for letting us stay here.  We’ve lived on Oahu for six years and enjoy staying in VRBO condos during our other island trips.  In a few months we will be moving back to the mainland… we will definitely miss our island trips.  A few years ago we made it a mission to play all golf courses on the Hawaiian Islands so our stay here marks the completion of our mission.  We love staying in rental condos for the “home away from home” comfort and amenities.  This is our first VRBO condo that was right on the water which made our last trip that much more meaningful.  We enjoyed the lanai and sea wall for reflecting on our last six years of living in a breathtaking place.  We do not take for granted how fortunate we have been.  Wish you both the best.

Wow!  Like so many other entries – where do you begin?  This place has been paradise.  The condo was much more than anticipated.  This trip started out “just as a vacation” and ended up being our honeymoon!  What a wonderful place you have and share with so many.  We watched turtles, waves and people.  We shopped and ate at the most wonderful restaurants.  Sushi was awesome and we agree nothing like it so far.  Helicopter ride was my fear factor to overcome and it was unbelievable.  Thank you so much for a small slice of heaven!  We met some great people and for all of this we are truly blessed.  See you again.

Other than Susan losing her license on a snorkeling trip, the week was absolutely perfect. Great excursions, beautiful sunsets & excellent place to stay.  We’re already discussing when to come back.      Best bets according to us: Road to Hana & then on to 7 sacred pools with a 2 mile hike through gorgeous bamboo to a spectacular waterfall.  Don’t miss it!!  Snorkeling at Honoloa Bay.  Park a top and walk on down.  Saw awesome fish and turtles.  The Ono fish at Bubba Gumps was delectable.  Yum!

What a drive with a lot to see.  Also took a ride on helicopter that was priceless.  Had a little mishap with the leak in bedroom but got through it.  No worries here in Hawaii. Ray and Connie, thank you so much.  My first experience here was fantastic.  A very nice place to enjoy.  We could hear the ocean at night.  What a peaceful way to sleep and the sunsets.  You were right are amazing.  We have wonderful pictures and great memories.  We will be back again soon!!  This is truly Sunset Central.

We really hate to leave and go back to reality!!  We have had a wonderful time.  The condo was perfect in every way.  Sitting on the lanai with a cup of coffee in the morning was great.  Grilling steaks and eating in when you want is wonderful instead of eating out.  The snorkeling is the best at Honoloa Bay plus great walk through jungle to get there.  Biggest schools of fish we have ever seen.  Old Lahaina Luau was great!  Great show and wonderful food.  Parasailing was also a lot of fun.We have so enjoyed this condo.  So much better than a hotel.  Total privacy.

Let me begin by saying what a wonderful time we have had over these past days.  I do not know how many times I have said to my husband, “I do not want to go home”.  But we must, and so we hope to return to this lovely condo called Sunset Central again. We have experienced so many wonderful memories, whether it was the Road Trip to Hana, where we climbed several wonderful areas, to include breathtaking waterfalls, seeing the Sunset at Haleakala Crater, attending Old Lahaina Luau, taking the Safari snorkeling Excursion, where we traveled all around Lanai & snorkeled 3 different coves.  Saw hundreds of dolphins and a monk seal. But my favorite thing was snorkeling in front of our condo with spectacular green turtles.  Ray, you were so right, the ledge on the left had hundreds of fish and a massive amount of sea turtles. We brought our daughter here for for high school graduation gift, but we enjoyed ourselves as much as she did. I am leaving so relaxed and ready for another busy year.  Sending my daughter to college, and then my husband and I will have an empty nest.  Just might have to come back again soon to help get over the empty nest syndrome.

Thanks Ray and Connie for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

We look forward to our next trip to Maui.

First the “Good”: Lovely condo.  We always rent housed or condos.  Never hotel rooms and I can say this was the best equipped we ever stayed at.  We could tell the owners personally stay here, not just management operated.  The lanai was great and thanks for being located right next to the path and the pavers for access to sea wall etc.Now the not so good: I was thankful you warned us about the grass being torn up from construction before we came.  I would have been upset to arrive and see all that dirt in my lovely view.  What you couldn’t have known is that on day 2 they spread sheep and peat fertilizer and put up yellow caution tape all around.  The pavers were all that saved us.  It was extremely fragrant, to say the least, and got more so as the late afternoon sun beat down.  Kind of made dinner on the lanai out of the question for a few days.  We ate in town but from what I could tell there wasn’t much of a sunset anyway.  Too many clouds each night. –disappointing-All in all it was a nice comfortable stay.  Maui is nice, Kauai is better.

Thanks again,

Our complex was shut down for the month of April to do over ¼ million dollars of sea wall and stair repairs.  On 4/19 I thought no way they will be done by May.  4/25 and they are almost done.  No one will notice much if they have not seen this work.  4000 lb rocks, little rocks, concrete, heavy machinery & more.  It looks great.  A major storm “Kona Storm” took out the far end 28 months ago (12/07) It has been a long approval process.  The work is done now and just need the grass to grow back.Foodie Update: Best deal is the new “Cane & Taro” restaurant.  Same owner as Sansei.  Tue & Wed = 50% off between 5 & 6 p.m.  It is in Whaler’s village and the 2nd closest restaurant to the ocean with ocean view.  Connie had shrimp over pasta. 5 large shrimp butter flied, great dish, a meal in itself for $12.95. Shrimp Dynamite was also great. I had a steak (chopped).  It came out sliced and sizzling on a hot plate with veggies.  Great.  Had both times.  Panko crusted Ahi was good.  Dessert ½ off too.  Might have been our best meals.  Went twice.  Went to Merriman’s again.  Great view food ok.  Tried Penne Pasta for first time.  I am not a pasta person.  It seemed good and a reasonable price.  Probably will not go back.  Only pasta place we have gone too since 2005.  Went to Lulu’s twice and had good appetizers.  2nd time had a 50% off coupon vs. regular 25% off during happy hour.  Found the coupon in a “Discover Maui” magazine.  The steak Pupu is my favorite.  Went to our favorite deli, Okazuya twice.  Connie thinks something changed on the Mahi Mahi with lemon capers and it is not as good.  BBQ steak and Korean chicken still great.  So convenient when tired.  Just call in, drive ½ mile, bring back and eat on lanai.  Hard to beat.  Went to Sansei again.  25% off 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Was great as usual.  Remember for Cane and Taro and Sansei you need to show up 20-30 early and stand in line.  Went to happy hour at Kimo’s.  It was good.  Deck right on ocean.  Overall Cane and Taro was our winner this trip! We have many menus in a plastic bag in our closet. We have had a great trip.  Glad we came for the end of construction and were able to create path around the dirt and update our guests regarding the construction. A first for me.  Went out one night offshore here and got 3 lobsters.  That was fun.  Looking forward to doing it again. Yesterday a pipe leaked from upper condo and stained our bedroom ceiling.  Got the leak fixed and spent day drying the ceiling and painted a bit.  Not done but good enough now until we pain on next opening 6/8/10.  Off to airport.

Aloha, Ray and Connie

P.S. Boogie boards go in closet.  Not under bed.

Our 2nd stay in B106.  Whales, dolphins, awesome sunsets.  Great food and drink, excellent hikes, then we found out the chair in the corner is a recliner!      Good meals at the deli, fish market, and Aloha Plate, plus a great send off dinner at Merriman’s.  We did two great hikes.  Waihe’e Ridge and a secret trail at Ia’0 Valley.  Went bird watching at Haleakala and saw some beautiful rare ones.  The aquarium was fun.    Love the improvements.  Especially the dryer vented outside.  Oh yeah, we’ll be back.

Not a rental, but a Home in Paradise.  Connie & Ray.  You are blessed with the gift of Hospitality.  We come to Maui frequently so we didn’t do too many activities.  Warren and Annabelle’s was great.  Next time will forego the appetizer package. (have a Happy Hour somewhere and come around 5:45 for one drink.  Both shows to intimate and entertaining.  Our favorite entertainment was your nice patio & the wall!  Doesn’t get sweeter!  We will definitely be returning to B106 to renew and relive the sunset memories.

Mahalo for all your hard work.

Aloha Ray, Yes, that is the correct address.  The "Maui Marvels" haven't worn off yet....even when we arrived to cold and snow in the Chicago area.  It's finally warming up, however.Your lovely place did make the trip sooo enjoyable.  It felt like home.  We would love to come back; and when we do, it will be to your place.I see from your calendar that you are getting booked.  We don't usually plan that far ahead, but I'll let you know.  I would love to have my family come and rent some other condos near you.

Fondly, Pat

Aloha Ray and Connie,We are back home now.  Just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed your place.  We had a wonderful time.  My brother and his wife are still at Maalaea Banyons.  They stopped by your place for a visit one afternoon, and I think they liked it better than their place.         We saw whales and turtles every day.  We even saw a whale breach five times in a row....right in front of your lanai.  Went to the snorkel place you suggested in your book, but the water was too rough.  All the beaches were closed.  No one was permitted in the water.           I noticed when I unpacked at home that I couldn't find my gold flowered Hawaiian bracelet.   I thought we checked everything well before we left, but could you ask the cleaning service and/or the next renters if they found the bracelet?  (This story has a great ending.  The next guests found the bracelet.)           Since we didn't have to leave until checkout time, we were able to wash the bed linens and towels and fold them before we departed.  We did not use the garbage disposal....since we seldom use ours at home.  We left your place exactly as we found it.  I think we both have the same goals for protecting our environment and leaving no carbon footprint.      Thanks so much for a great week.

From Ray and Connie, owners.I figured I better start this note before it is too late.  We are so laid back.  Got here for a New Year’s Blue Moon.  Had to look up what Blue Moon is.  It is the second full moon happening in the same month.  Occurs about 4 times in 10 years but will be ab out 20 years before it occurs again on New Years.  The moon sets in the morning were great.
Lulu’s appetizer update. (next to Safeway) 50% off is gone.  Now 25% off menu, 4:30 to 6:00.  Went to Merriman’s again.  Sliders and fries were great.
This is our 5th New Year’s here.  We have seen more whales than any of them.  Very active too.  Many breeches.
We leave tomorrow and like everyone else do not want to.  We did go to lulu’s again at 25% off an enjoyed the appetizers and Merriman’s again.  It is beautiful there.  Went to Hula Grill on beach in Whaler’s Village.  Caesar’s salad with fresh seared Ahi was great.  Only went to Okazuya deli once, a record low for us.  Steak and Mahi Mahi was great as usual.
Not many condo improvements for the Kueppers who come next for 59 days.  But a couple.  Aloha

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.  We could not have asked for a nicer location to spend our holiday vacation.  We loved the sunsets and Christmas morning sunrise was a fantastic treat topped off by two rainbows!  We enjoyed driving the Road to Hana.  1st we stopped in Paia and got some yummy hot food and treats at Mana market on Baldwin.  There are places to stop for food after Paia even though the guide books say there isn’t.  The CD and book Maui Revealed are a must to have on the drive.  Our favorite meal was at Leilani’s upstairs.  The food and service was excellent and so was the view.

Hello Ray and Connie
We have to tell you how much we enjoyed staying in your condo unit. As soon as we walked inside, we were so happy to be there! Everything was so clean and tidy, just as we like it. This was our first visit to Maui, and everything was perfect. How lucky you are to be able to walk right outside your door and be able to view that wonderful ocean! I grew up in Port Renfrew, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, so the Pacific will always be a part of my soul, and I miss it a lot sometimes, living and farming in the Cowichan Valley, as beautiful as it can be here, too. We had the best week ever, and hope to stay longer next time. I hope you were satisfied that we tried to leave it as tidy as it was when we arrived.
Thank you so much.

Ray and Connie, You're right.  We loved Sunset Central!  Thanks for the fresh flowers on the counter!  You and Connie are so fortunate to have found such a great getaway.  We enjoyed several beautiful sunsets.  Even a couple that we thought weren't going to be that good because of the cloud cover turned out to have some wonderful colors after the sun dipped below the horizon.  We tried a little boogie boarding out from the condo, but apparently we both need some more practice.  On the 12th (Heather's birthday), the waves got to roughly 10-12 feet, so they brought out nearly a dozen surfers.  We watched from the patio while reading our books.  It was very relaxing.  We took advantage of the BBQ grills for a couple of our dinners.       We had a fun time at the zip line, sailed out to Molokini and "Turtle Bay", went to the Old Lahaina Luau, and ate dinner at Pacific'0.  We ate breakfast at The Gazebo restaurant up at the Napili Shores Hotel where we watched 5 sea turtles in the tide pools.  We drove the loop around the north end of Maui - what views! It had rained heavily the night before so there were lots of rocks in the road, but it made it that much more of an adventure.  On our last day we ate lunch at Mama's Fish House; by far the best meal and the view was great.  We went about half way to Hana but had to turn around to make our flight on time.    Maui Car Rentals worked out great.  After I called them to let them know we had arrived, they arrived to pick us up by the time we crossed the street to the pick-up point.  Another benefit was that we were able to drop the car off at Lot B on our way out since they were closed by that time.  We simply paid an extra nine dollars and they picked up the car the following day. Again, all of your instructions and recommendations were very helpful to us.  It absolutely helped make the trip that much more relaxing.  Rick and Heather

11/14 Day #1 = many sea turtles right in front of us!! Love it already. Day #2 - #8.  Drove all over the island, went to lots of different beaches, and never really had a plan.  That being said we did go on a beautiful sail (Catamaran) to Molokini.  On the way back in a very choppy, windy squall and made for a fun (SCARY) ride back.  Then that evening went to Old Lahaina Luau which was so fun!  Not something we would normally do but so glad we did! This trip has been really great.  Especially our stay at Sunset Central.  Our only regret is that it is over.

Thank you for helping make our honeymoon special.          Daniel and Mercedes, Seattle, WA

Ray and Connie, Heather and I are so pleased that we found Sunset Central!  Even though we had to delay our trip for a year, it was wonderful!  We enjoyed several beautiful sunsets while relaxing on your lounge chairs.  We had great fun on the nearby zip line.  Visited Molokini and Turtle Bay, and ate a great meal at Pacific O’s.  We also went to the Old Lahaina Luau.  Even though it rained a bit during the show it was still very enjoyable.  We also ate at the Gazebo, up North past Naplili Shores Hotel.  Great food with a great view.  While there we saw 5 turtles in the tide pools by the restaurant.  We also enjoyed the circle drive around the North side of the island.  It followed a heavy rain the night before so here were lots of rocks on the road.  It made it much more of an adventure.  Julia’s banana bread is tops!  We’re off today to drive a portion of the road to Hana before heading home to Winter Storm Watch in Denver.  You suggestion t use Maui Car Rentals worked well.  They were very friendly, quick pickup service and a good price.

Ray and Connie,Our first visit to your condo and we will be back!  I have been to Maui a few times, but this trip brought my Mom.  Her FIRST trip to the island, and she loved it!  Thank you for everything.Highlights for us had to be the morning watch of GIANT turtles feeding right off the seawall.  There was a beautiful wedding out front at Sunset complete with conch blowing.  Snorkeling at Kahekili Beach was fantastic! (Left side) Old Lahaina Luau was fun, pricey but need to do at least once.  I think we had take out from Okazuya three times, I was addicted to Korea BBQ chicken. Each night before sunset it was time to take boogie board out to the beach and swim with the turtles.  Your neighbors are terrific, friendly, and we felt welcome. This was a wonderful trip for me and my Mom; she’s talking about all her kids coming next year! Thanks again,Sherry Hayman, Seattle, WA Pat Wartnow, Whitefish, MTP.S. Here for our 25th anniversary.  Have been to a lot of places in this world & this is the most beautiful. Thanks for the CD for the road trip to Hana.  We enjoyed the sites and the people along the way.  Bought two loaves of banana bread with banana butter.  Delicious. Took in the Old Lahaina Luau.  Met some nice people from Cuba and Argentina. Went to see Haleakala National Park to see the volcano.  Ate at Cane and Taro. Enjoyed beach! Had lunch at Kimo’s.  Ribs fantastic.  Later ate dinner @ Plantation House.  Very leasant!   Went zip lining!  What a rush.  Beautiful day!  Ate lunch at Bubba Gumps.  Ate dinner at Hula Grill. Seen large turtles while sitting on beach. Ate at Mama’s Fish House.

Looking forward to coming back soon!  Thanks for everything!

We are back again for our anniversary and loving it.  Not too many people here this week.  Owners are straggling in for their annual meeting keeping Charlie the Resident manager very busy.  He keeps everything running smoothly.  This year we seemed to get into the “Maui Mode” very quickly.  For anniversary dinner went to Sansei Sushi, very good food, good service.  The rest of our meals I cooked.  I love to cook.  Backdrop here is great.  I look at the Pacific when I cook at home (which is great) but I can hear it when I’m eating here. Temperature much warmer than years past, higher humidity and less rain.  But water temp and clarity great.WiFi worked fantastic.  We are able to keep track of our business while we are her with no worries.  Mark aamzed his buddies back in Orange County California by connecting via internet to his ham radio repeaters and talking to them on their radios while sitting on the beach in Maui! This was a good relaxing trip for us.  Accommodations were lovely as always.  Unfortunately never did have any good sunsets but the past years have shown us many. Thanks again for sharing.  We will be back next anniversary------ Mahalo, Mark and Laura Hergesheimer, Dana Point, CA

From Ray and Connie, owners.  This has been a very good trip. We are healthy, did new things, did old things, improved the condo and had fun.        New: We went to Merriman’s for happy hour.  Has sliders, very good, and deep fried vegetable.  Very good, a bit pricey.  Update! Went to Merriman’s again and they stopped serving fried vegetables.  They want to serve healthier food.  Went to Cook Cat for burgers due to past renters comments.  I got a double cheeseburger, $13.00 and could only eat half of it.  Very good.  Ate the other half 2 days later.  While walking down Front St. we saw that “Lahaina fish co.” had happy hour Mai Tais 1-6 pm for $2.50.  Best price we have seen.  I never drink Mai Tais but I do have one rule I follow.  I have to drink one drink with an umbrella in it when I come to Maui.  This took care of that.  Did a great Hammerhead Shark dive.  Saw about ten. Old: Went to Okazuya Deli three times for take out and Lulu’s for appetizers 4-6 pm twice.  Both great as usual.          Improvements: Nothing goes as planned.  First we were going to acid wash our grout around the tiles.  Then we bought a vanity top with fixtures.  It did not fit so we had to buy a cabinet.  Part of 3 days gone when just planning a couple of hours but we are happy with the outcome.     Sunsets: Three real nice ones.  Can’t wait to see the pictures.  6 ok sunsets but still nice. 1 dud.  We are professional sunset watchers.  They are their best about 20-30 minutes after the sun sets.   We have a varmit carpet stain by the lanai sliding doors.  We had it professionally cleaned.  Came back twice, not as bad.  If it shows up on you do not worry.  It already existed.  Running late for airport, got to go.     Aloha, Ray and Connie

9/11/09 to 9/20/09 Stay: Guest Book Comments Ray and Connie,     Thank you for the slice of paradise you allowed us to use.  We have no words to describe our time here at Sunset Central.  It was everything we wanted and needed it to be.  We hope to take a little Hawaiian attitude back with us.     We ended up eating twice at Lahaina Fish Co. – not so much for the food but more for the people (staff) we met there.  Of everything it has been the lovely people we have encountered that will stay with us forever – Say hello to Belinda and Mike -  truly enjoy them.  Of course the sunrises and sunsets are permanently etched into our minds & hearts.         From our heart to yours, Brian & Krista Clouse “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows his handiwork09/07/09: EmailJust a note to thank you for sharing your corner of paradise with us.  The grandkids had a great time, and fell in love with it as we did.  We went to the Old Lahaina Luau evening show and found it quite different from the a.m. show... both great, but the evening feast is awesome!  We swam with the turtles who were out in numbers, and overdid our boogie boarding a bit (sunburn... lost track of time).  By the way, got a new boogie board as one was broken.  Left it for the good folks of B-106, plus a case of bottled water.              We drove the road to Hana (Beautiful!) and saw the lava tubes & black sand beach, and went on to the seven sacred pools about 8 miles past Hana... the road becomes a bit more difficult, but well worth it.  Took a ferry to Lanai and visited this quiet little island for a day.  Nice place but a word to the wise... drink bottled water or pop.          Spent some time on front street shopping and had dinner at Bubba Gumps (pleasantly surprised)  Drove to Honoloa, great snorkeling there but crowded the day we went.  Also went to the Aquarium and Maui Plantation.  Thanks again for everything,

Aloha!        This was our second stay at Sunset.  We love it here.  We did the usual beaches. Kaanapali, Kapalua, for snorkeling with a 3 year old was perfect because the fish are so close to the shore for beginners.   The first couple of days the south and North sell were coming in because of hurricane hitting Baja Mexico.  We had some rough waves and tons of water coming over up front!  No beach sand to use here these couple of days.       We tried a new beach down South Makena, turtle town.  The waves were sort of big and we thought it would be too much for our three year old – but we stayed all day and body surfed.  The waves broke at shore and did not have the pull back in so it was perfect.  Our 3 year old loved it.  We also did Napili – over crowded and won’t go back.  Kaanapali much better.  Overrated beach!  Did our trip to Hana, fabulous!  We saw a huge school of dolphins way out front of lanai – jumping and playing.  There were probably 50 of them.  Saw turtles out front and all the beaches we went to.          We did the Sansei, Cool Cat – awesome burgers – Moose’s, Hula and of course the deli, and to end our vacation our favorite Roy’s.  They are so good there -  better than hula and their selection of Sushi is better than Sansei’s, including their butter fish!  They are it as an app. and also in one of their shushi rolls.  Just up the street 2 minutes.  Next to it is a coffee shop and they do have the best ice cream.  We read a previous guest comment and tried it.  Delicious!  Don’t bother Maui Brewing – not good food for price – need to improve menu and price.         We had a great stay – we will be back again!  Thanks for everything!  We again left lots of food & beverages for the next guests.

Aloha,        I am a grandchild of Ted and JoAnne Petrie.  My name is Ariel and I am 12 years old.  My grandparents took me and my brother to Maui, Hawaii.  It was so much fun!  Right when I walked in to the condo all I could say was “Wow?”  It is so beautiful!!!  And thank you Ray and Connie for sharing it with us!!  So the interesting things we did were the Luau which has so many amazing performances.  We also went on the Road to Hana, which has so many opportunities to take some good pictures.  We stopped at a lot of places like the black sand beach.  It had a lava tube that went all the way through to the ocean.  That was awesome!  We also went to the Plantation and the Aquarium.  Both were so fun!  At the Plantation I fed ducks out of my hand and it was a great experience because I have never done that before.  At the aquarium I saw some amazing sea life.  Even going down to Lahaina to shop was fun.  Hanging out in the condo was great.  Me and my brother loved swimming in the ocean and the pool.  We also LOVED seeing the sea turtles!  They were cool and so close to the shore.  So Hawaii was great and I am hoping to come back sometime.  It is definitely a good way to spend a peaceful vacation.  Especially in this wonderful CONDO!!!  Thanks again Ray and Connie.

This was our second visit here to Sunset Central but the first with our two grandkids.  We really enjoyed having them with us and thank you for allowing us to bring them.  (Only 3 total allowed to stay at Sunset Central) They and we had tons of fun.        We went boogie boarding and found that one of the boards here was broken so we bought a new one and put it with the others under the bed.          Hope to make it back again sometime.  Thanks so much.

We had an amazing time as expected.  This time around we made sure to spend more time at the condo and enjoy every sunset.  It definitely feels like a home away from home.  We hit all of the usual spots: the Gazebo, Plantation House, and Sansei are all our favorites.  We also went snorkeling at Honolua Bay, which we didn't get a chance to do last time.  It was beautiful there and even a scenic little hike down the path to get there. The tide outside of the condo was very low all week and the water was the clearest I'd ever seen it.  There was a family of giant sea turtles feeding around the rocks all week and had a couple of close encounters with them in the water. Snorkeling around the condo was also amazing all week.  Some neighbors found the giant reef about 50 yards off shore and they were standing in the middle of the ocean with the water only up to their waist!  We hope to rent from you guys again soon and we'll also spread the word!  Hope you have a great time out there in September.

Dear Ray and Connie,         We are trying to figure out how we can stay longer.  Next time for sure.  This condo has been a great location for all our needs.          Our son, Clint, was so happy to join us for our first 5 days and was kind enough to be our driver.  We saw areas of Maui I doubt we would have ever gone!  But we have super pictures.    The snorkeling was the vest – right out here and at Napili Bay.  Even the Hurricane Felicia that was downgraded to tropical storms turned out to be fun to watch.  The surf was really churning out here.  But always the sun came out and the rainbows.  Lovely.  Clint joined us for the Old Lahaina Luau which we all enjoyed.  There was time after Clint flew home to shop for the grand daughter’s gifts.   Sunset Central has given us a full set of memories and wonderfull photos for our next album.  Thanks (Mahalo) for the memories!

Connie and Ray,

We made it to Sunset Central and have been enjoying ourselves sooooo much, I forgot to write you and let you know that we made it!!!! How very lovely. Your website was quite correct, although it cannot capture the sound and feeling one has when here. The first night we saw the large turtles, and today we drove around the north side of the island with a snorkel stop at a rocky bay. That drive is quite memorable with its one-lane road and yummy banana bread stop.  And still more days to go!  We are loving it and Clint is so happy we invited him to join us.

Mahalo Ray and Connie!    We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Maui and your condo.  Your tips and suggestions were a very nice touch and we did use them.  Thank you.         During our visit we enjoyed a number of places to go and places to dine.  Among them were Mama’s Fish House, Sansei, Hali’Imaile and numerous others including a small coffee shop located in Kahana Gateway Center which sells the best ice cream on Maui.  Even better than Lippert’s.  (our opinion) The “Old Lahaina Luau” was the greatest.  Okazuya’s and “The Bakery” are also very good options.  Hopefully we will get back soon.

Just wanted to send a few words to tell you how our vacation went. It was absolutely fabulous! We had a great time. We live next door to the beaches so that wasn't our biggest excitement although they were beautiful. We loved the tours of the city and the adventures that we found throughout the town and Warren & Annabelle's was the GREATEST!!!!! Would recommend everyone to go to the show! The view out back was wonderful and the condo was perfect! You guys had everything there that a couple would need to make it a perfect week. We will definitely be calling you up again for our next trip and telling all our friends and family about you! Thanks so much for sharing your piece of the that side of the world with us!

Aloha! Ray and Connie.  We are so thankful you’ve shared your piece of joy with us.  We’ve enjoyed it so much.  We live on the beach so that was something that we are used to but we enjoyed the sights so much.  The view from the condo was absolutely breathtaking!  I couldn’t get enough postcard perfect! We took a lot of rides from one end of the island to the other just to look at the views and scenery.  We loved that.  We took the ride to Hana.  Loved the black sand beach.  The views were unbelievable.  Everyone needs to go.  Went on the Pineapple tour and was pleasantly surprised that it was great!!The luau we went to at the Merriott was not good.  Went to Warren and Annebelle’s show and it was he best thing on the island.  We recommend everyone to go to it.  The food was great, drinks were good and the service was great also.  Our favorite place to eat a sandwich was Cool Cats. Went to the summit and you really need a jacket.  The day we went it was blowing 60 mph and it was 55 degrees.  Overall we love this Hawaii and we recommend this place to our friends and family.  Thank you so much for sharing your place with us.

Aloha Ray and Connie!  Mahalo for letting us enjoy your little piece of heaven!  We have had a wonderful week here enjoying the condo.  Lots of relaxation.  We are on our honeymoon and spent our first week in Kauai… we spent most of that week doing many excursions.  Our week here was planned especially to relax and enjoy the condo ant that we did!! In 7 days we did not miss a sunset – AWESOME -!  Enjoyed our home made Mai Tais with a beautiful sunset on the lanai each night except the night we went to Old Lahaina Luau where we watched it there.  It was our first Luau and most likely our last.  It was a pleasant experience that everyone should do at least once & food was so-so.  A little “touristy” for our liking but remember, we live in Las Vegas and might be slightly jaded with the tourist activities. We had daily visitors like clockwork on the lanai for our wildlife viewing pleasure…. the Gecko (we named him Gunther), the lovely birds and the many sea turtles flocking right in front of the condo!  It was so nice… we were wishing that we were here for whale season!  It must be absolutely amazing! We did end up doing a few activities… Pineapple tour was informative and enjoyed picking our own pineapple.  Went to the Haleakala crater summit which had amazing views, just bring a light jacket since it gets a little cold up there…it was 55 degrees at the summit and 90 degrees at sea level.  Visited Tedeschi Winery on the way home… very nice.  Also visited the Maui Ocean Center.  For those of you who like to hike, go to the Kapalua adventure center & the Kapalua Resort to pick up trail maps.  They have easy walking trails and trails that lead up the mountain.  We hiked almost 7 miles one way on the Mahana Ridge trail and Honoloa Ridge and Maunalei Arboretum trails to the top… Shuttle service to take you back down if you like.  Pretty good hike, bring lots of water!  We left a trail map in the information bag.In regards to food… we spent all o our breakfasts on the lanai!  Started and ended our lunch at Cool Cat café for their delicious burgers!  Ate at the deli a few times -  it was excellent as everyone says!  Ate at Sansei one night.  Great Sushi.  Had lunch at Buzz’s Wharf… did not disappoint… had fish-n-chips and fish sandwich – delicious!  Macadamia nut pie was excellent too!  But our favorite place for dinner was Roy’s, just 5 minutes away.  We have actually been surprised that no one has mentioned it in the reviews… EXCELLENT!  It started in Hawaii but we actually started going in Las Vegas.  The Miso butterfish, blackened Ahi are out two favorite entrees but we also had fantastic short ribs and filet mignon.  Their Ahi 10 sushi roll is to die for!  We left a couple of menus with all the others. We really had a fantastic week and hope to be back very soon… this is so much better than staying at the big resorts!  Thanks again for sharing your “little piece of paradise”!  We enjoyed every minute.

Ray and Connie.  My daughter and I enjoyed our stay very much.  Thank you for having such a wonderful place.  Our stay in Maui was too short.  Went to Hana, top of mtn. to see sunrise, snorkeling and dolphin watching.   By far our favorite activity was the zip line.  Old Lahaina Luau very ono too.

What a beautiful place!  Thank you so much for sharing it with us.  After spending a week in Kauai we came here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.  We had a great time and wouldn’t have wanted to celebrate anywhere else.  We came with friends who stayed next door.  We had an awesome time on the Road to Hana, the North side loop, snorkeling, the Old Luau, the Winery, climbing the volcano, & just plain relaxing & enjoying your beautiful facilities.  We kept on anticipating “Earl” (we named the big turtle) to come up on shore but we never saw him on shore.  Oh, we also did Warren and Annabelle’s.  We also highly recommend this show to everyone.  Thanks again for making our 10th so special.  The sunsets were awesome.

Ray and Connie were here to greet us at the condo.  We ate our fist dinner at Lulu’s, then drinks at Kimo’s on the beach in Lahaina.  Breakfast twice at the Gazebo in Napili – best breakfast anywhere!  Went to the Old Lahaina Luau and really enjoyed it.  Mother’s Day we had breakfast at Kaanapali Beach Club, then snorkeling and beach, ate dinners at Cheeseburger in Paradise.  Food OK, music was good.  Rented Harley for a day trip to the Winery in the hills.  Nice day and ate at winery deli.  Went on Sunset Dinner Cruise in Lahaina. Included live Hawaiian music, hula and magic show along with great BBS dinner and beautiful sunset.  Chuck went on the snorkeling trip to Molokini and had a great day.  Lots of fish and took 150 pics which they put on a disk for him.  I had breakfast at The Beach Bum Grill & spent the day at the Aquarium.  Nice!  Another great place is the Plantation House overlooking the ocean – good food.  Our last night was happy hour at Front Street Bar and Grill.  Great drinks and live music, then the magic show at Warren and Annabelle’s.  Warren is outstanding!  An unbelievable show that everyone would love.  Thanks Ray & Connie for sharing Sunset Central!  It’s the best.  We hope to come again.

P.S.   A huge (several hundred lbs) sea turtle spent 3 nights on the sand after dark, right outside our condo.  He snuck up without us seeing him and only tracks remaining in the morning.  Really cool to see.  Aloha!

Ray and Connie, the owners, here again.  What a week and a half. Connie came quite sick.  She is better now.
Went to Sansei for our first dinner out.  We added 3 days to our stay so we could have some fun.
Saw many whales.  Went to Honoloa Bay.  Saw my first Spotted Eagle Ray.  Every time I go there I have a great new experience.  Saw an Hawaiian Monk Seal right in front of the condo. Another first.  They are endangered.
Had good meals at the Plantation (breakfast and lunch), & Hula Grill (Whaler’s village).  Waited for ocean view window table at the Plantation.  Good Caesar’s salad with Ahi at Hula Grill.
Got bathroom painted finally. Hard job because last owner enamel over oil base.  A no-no.  Had to scrape it all off and primer it, then paint.
Did a Manta Ray night dive with Lahaina Diver’s.  Great dive but I think there are better ones.
Will be meeting our renters tonight.  Looking forward to it.  Coming back on 9/20.
          Until then, Ray and Connie

Aloha Ray,Our week on Maui was positively one of the best vacations we've taken.  Using Sunset Central as the home base, we explored the Island, north to south and east to west.  It would be unfair to rank our favorites for the week since each day brought forth a new favorite.  Thank you for sending along the package of comments and ideas from your former guests.  Many of the recommendations and comments were spot-on.  We enjoyed driving the road to Hana, traveling up to Haleakala, taking a helicopter ride over West Maui and Molokai, walking at Ka'anapali beach and mostly we enjoyed relaxing on your lanai.

We ate at many of the heretofore recommended establishments.   Enjoyed Lahaina Fish Co., Lahaina Coolers Restaurant, Okazuya Deli and had a particularly wonderful meal at the Pineapple Grill in Kapalua.   It was our 30th anniversary.  Using your wireless internet access we picked the The Pineapple Grill after looking on-line at the location/menu.  We started with the Lobster Bisque and the house salad.  The pineapple vinaigrette was very good.  For the main course, they recently added a seafood paella which was very good.  My wife had the daily special fish - don't remember the name but it was a light flakey fish served over a bed of mashed potatoes with a light creamy sauce that was wonderful.  Desert was their "world famous" pineapple upside down cake.  (Waitress gave us this complimentary for our anniversary).  Pricing was about the same as Lahaina Fish Co.  Restaurant overlooks Kapalua golf course and ocean.  Service was excellent.  It would be a very nice restaurant for your 27th- and by the way congratulations to you. We ended the week refreshed and relaxed - just what the doctor ordered.

Hi Ray, We missed the diary book. Sorry about that. I have nothing but good things to say about the condo! Our entire trip was amazing and where we stayed contributed 100% to that. The view was amazing and the accommodations were great. Every night, there was a different colored sunset (blue, orange, yellow, pink and purple). And the strip of beach in the front, even though it was small, was so peaceful. We were the only ones on it the whole time we were there. It felt like a private beach! We have gorgeous pictures for the memory books. Hearing the ocean as you fell asleep was just the icing on the cake. I've already recommended it to a few friends who are planning on going at the end of this year. We did a few of the "touristy" things in Maui - Walked around Lahaina, did the Old Lahaina luau, snorkeling at Molokini crater (we went with the Four Winds II and had a blast - super laid back crew and the water was so clear) and the road to Hana. Not a single complaint about any of them. The weather was perfect the entire time we were there too, which I guess we were lucky to have because everyone there said it had been pretty chilly, windy and rainy the week before. Good timing I guess :o)The days in between we spent on the beach and snorkeled in front of the condo. We saw an eel, beautiful fish and to my ultimate surprise a sea turtle, which swam within touching distance of us! We left him alone of course, but turning around and seeing him there made me scream which pretty much got everyone's attention that was snorkeling in that area, ha. I couldn't believe he was swimming so close. Also, while hanging out on the beach, we saw the whales in the distance, jumping out of the water with their baby calves. It was awesome. The week there made it so hard to come back to the foot of snow that waited for us in Denver. I hope we get to come back and visit soon.

Warm regards,

We also enjoyed sushi form Star Market while watching the whales dance. They came out late this morning 4-8-09. We enjoyed the Hula Grill our first eve here and also the Okazua take out.We are also impressed with the location and amenities of your condo!

Gifts from Sea Boutique were beautiful and well priced and a stone’s throw away.

We also really liked the Farmer’s Market just up the road.

Ray and Connie,

We had a wonderful week at Sunset Central. One of our favorite times was breakfast on the lanai with bagels and coffee. We could sit and watch the whales jumping in the distance. We drove the coast around the entire island. Some very thrilling one lane roads but had a blast. We will definitely return to your piece of paradise and thank you so much for sharing.

We loved our 11 wonderful days at Sunset Central. The condo was very comfortable and nothing beats being a few steps from the ocean. Great!  Lullaby of the Ocean every night. Kevin snorkeled with a turtle at the north end of our little beach the second day here.
Kapalua Bay beach was fantastic for snorkeling. Very beautiful and close by. Park on north side of Napili Kai condos. Get there early to get a parking space. Perfect beach for beginner and experienced snorkelers. Saw tons of whale activity at the beach including a whale breaching, tail slaps, flukes – just a lot of whales having fun together. Went there twice. Fleming Beach is great for body boarding. Went there twice. Makena Beach was great for snorkeling. Also went to Makena State Park Beach, just before Big Beach. It’s down a dirt road. Gerri had a blast beach combing there.
Found a great Mexican restaurant in Kihei called “Fred’s”. Ate there twice. It’s on main drag in Kihei. Great chips and salsa, carnitas, outdoor dining and casual. Paia – fun little town just a few miles out of Kahalui. Great funky little shops and fun atmosphere. Ate one of the best meals on our trip at Milagros in Paia. We had special of the day, Opa for just $12.95. Yum! Went to the “Champagne Sunday Brunch”  at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel. Not worth the $40.00.  Food was so-so and the place was kind of run down.  Ate at the Deli twice, Leilani’s, Hula Grill, Lahaina Fish (great!) – all were great. Ate at Cheeseburgers in Paradise. We’ve renamed it “Cheeseburgers in Hell” – yuck. The live music was good though.
We sat on the lanai almost every evening for the gorgeous sunsets & took lots of pictures. We loved this beautiful quiet condo. We’ll never go to a huge high rise hotel in Hawaii again. Thanks Ray & Connie for letting us enjoy Hawaii from your condo.

Kevin and Gerri Taylor
P.S. Anyone who doesn’t enjoy an ice cream at Lipperts Ice Cream is missing out. “Kauai Pie” flavor. We started the tradition in Kauai and continued it here at Lahaina Lipperts on “Front St. “Kauai Pie” flavor is the best. It is mocha ice cream, chocolate fudge, macadamia nut & coconut. The best!

Aloha.  Another great year in paradise. Weather was good. Little cool this last week but it is still better than the snow we are returning to.The condo looks great. Every year we see new improvements. Again we appreciate staying in your condo. We had a busy year. The highlight was being able to watch our grandson varsity hockey game from Minnesota on TV in Maui. We went to the Rusty Harpoon restaurant in Ka’anapali and they could pick up the signal. Technology is wonderful!!We went to Maui Cultural Center again for several events.   Keali’I Reichel concert Hawaii youth symphony with Willie Kay. It was outstanding. These musicians are fantastic!!  “And last but not least” Jimmy buffet – Fun TimeWe went to Whale Quest at the Ritz Carlton. Always an interesting time. Went to culinary school for lunch. As always we enjoyed.  Went to Sansei for my “Butterfish FiX!!” LuLu’s has ½ price menu during happy hour.  The food was good.  Also R + B Steak house has ½ price pupu’s during Happy Hour.  Good Food. Ray and Connie here again.  1/1/09 we watched our first lightning storm over the island of Lanai.  First here at Sunset Central that is.  Quite a show with no rain here.  Installed new shower doors and very happy with the way they turned out.  Tried new restaurant for appetizers. Lu Lu’s next to Safeway in Lahaina. Happy hour all = ½ off from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Calamari, Honolulu Hot Tuna “Ahi” and steak appetizers were great. Flat bread is like pizza with lots of cheese and very good.  Would order all again. Connie was disappointed with the crab cakes. Brought half the food home to eat the next day. Went to Pacific O at far end of Lahaina, 505 Front St. Had oyster appetizer. Will do again. Bloody Mary was expensive at $8.00.  Great view. Went to Sansei again. Awesome as usual. Went to Okazuya Deli three times.  All good.  Their prices are starting to creep up.Looking forward to your annual 60 day renters getting here on 1/7/09 and them seeing all the improvements. Till next time.

Dear Ray and Connie,

What a wonderful peaceful and hospitable “home away from home” you have at Sunset Central. Our favorite spot to sit was on the seawall with a cup of coffee to start the day. Dan saw an octopus try to climb the wall & we both saw whales playing and jumping in the distance.

We highly recommend the snorkeling at Honoloa Bay. It was spectacular! For the golfers play the Dunes. Was the best. Each hole was unique in design, rolling fairways, fast greens. We also played Makena North that was also fun. Challenging dog legs, elevations, & great views. Our least favorite of the  was Kaanapali. Just not as interesting.

For food agree with all the comments on the Deli and Sansei.  We would not recommend the Ritz Carlton at the Banyon tree but went for our 10th anniversary, Christmas dinner, & it was expensive for the food and experience. We preferred cooking at “home” and listening to Israel on the lanai.

Thank you for a great vacation. Enjoy

We thoroughly enjoyed listening to the ocean any time of day. Went to sleep listening to the waves and woke up to the waves. We weren’t lucky enough to see a sunset from here. Every night we were here at sunset there was so much cloud cover. We did see the sunset at Makena Beach Landing. Wonderful little beach. Almost had all to ourselves. Also saw the sunset when we went to the Old Lahaina Luau. The luau was the best one we have ever been to. Saw a lot of turtles at the shore just before the start of the luau.  Saw a few turtles here one day.  It wasn’t until the end of the week that we were told that the best time to see the turtles at the condo is about 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. when they come around for feeding. We did the Road to Hana and saw the sunrise at the top of Haleakala. Awesome sight. Iao Valley was also a great sight to see.

We ate breakfast on the lanai every morning. For the most part we had great weather. The day we were at the South Shore, Makena Beach, it rained hard in the Lahaina area. Even the Luau was cancelled. We somehow managed to miss the rain. A few times we had a light mist but only for a few minutes. One night it rained very hard. My husband didn’t even know it rained he was sleeping so good.

We rode through Lahaina last night after eating at Mala and saw lots of people dressed up in costumes. All in all a good vacation and we would lover to come back. Sad to say we have to go home today.

Nick and Margo Gundlach, Brease, IL

P.S. As a vegetarian my favorite place was down to Earth nature Foods. We would buy lunch/suppers and bring back to eat.  Watched some turtles swimming outside the lanai just before we left.  Pretty cool.

Aloha again,

Our trip this year has been great. The temperature was a bit warmer than last year with just a trickle of rain.

The turtles were much more active. 1 or 2 every day eating at the rocks and one day over a dozen at the South end of the property. Ocean was churned up through the week so snorkeling was limited. The surfers were having a good time.

We brought some friends for their first stay here.  They are going to come back next year too.

The waterfalls on the way to Hana were disappointing this trip because of the water diversion that is happening on that side of the island. I hope they can get that resolved favorably.

Shopped at Costco, loaded up and ate like Kings every meal. Never did go out for any dinner. But BBQ’s worked great, we have the best table in the joint, fine wines, and don’t need a designated driver.  Can’t get much better than that.

Nice new TV. I felt guilty because we never turned on the old one.  I turned on 2X to make Ray feel good.

The lovely relaxing time pushed all the problems with the economy and elections behind for the week. It’s quite easy when you get here.

Thank you for sharing. We will be back next year again.

I made this a golf holiday & played six x 18 holes in 5 days.

  • Wailea Gold - $185 well groomed, greens very fast, scored 94
  • Makenna North - $99 beautiful layout, hilly, lava rock scenery. Greens very slow but difficult to read because of the hilly terrain. I often could not tell if I was putting up or down hill. Scored 92
  • Dunes - $102, replay $50 very interesting layout, especially the back 9. A lot of hidden holes and greens on top of hills. Fun to play. Moderate to slow greens. Shot 41, 46, 37, 43 on the nines.  My favorite course.
  • Elleair – seasonal rate $95 Very playable & the most forgiving course I played. Greens slow but in nice shape. A very playable every day type course. Shot 87 & 88

I did not have a single bad experience playing golf here.  GREAT TIME.

Aloha! What an amazing first Maui experience. We decided to island hop for our honeymoon and this was our second stop. How refreshing to come from a resort to a private, beautiful, oceanfront condo! Thank you-thank you! Calling this place paradise is no exaggeration. We take with us many photos and fond memories of breakfasts on the lanai (what a way to start the day), beautiful sunsets, rainbows (2 in one week), swimming with the turtles, snorkeling at several spots on the island, the Road to Hana, the lava fields at La Perouse Bay. We made a point to be home every evening for the sunset, the only scheduled part of our vacation. We have never had a more relaxing week in our 37 years together. We can’t imagine ever staying in a large resort again.

P.S. Mike (the natural skeptic) was impressed that everything was as advertised. He thought no place could be as perfect as this sounded. But it is!

This was our first stay without working a lot i.e a real vacation.  Visited a couple of new restaurants in Kihei.  Café O’Lei was very nice.  Will go back.  In particular calamari stuffed with Ahi was delicious.  Found new good snorkeling location from our condo.  Right in front of the next condo complex South from us.  Another great Sansei restaurant meal.  Got home for 9 sunsets out of 10 nights.  Some good some hidden by clouds.  Even those were relaxing and enjoyable.  Beach steps were trickier than typical to navigate.

Ray and Connie,

Thank you for sharing your bit of paradise with us. Fantastic location, beautiful views of the ocean as well as sunsets. We enjoyed it all. Trying to catch a glimpse of sea turtles each day was a highlight. We really did see quite a few.

Of course we had one dinner at Kimo’s. Each time we come to Maui Kimo’s is included in our plans. Always a good and atmosphere is very “Hawaiian”.

Again thanks for your helpful hints and information you sent us before our visit here.

Aloha Ray and Connie,

Our famous writer Hans Christian Anderson once said “To travel is to live”. We have enjoyed every moment in your condo, looking at the sea, hearing the waves and exploring the island. To us sitting at the ti of the ocean with a glass of wine, looking at the starts while listening to the waves is a complete relaxation.

Dear Ray and Connie,

Thanks for sharing this beautiful place with us. What a backyard! This was our first time in Hawaii. Here to celebrate our 25th anniversary but we’re still young at heart. 1st day here we rode ATV’s at Haleakala then rode the zip lines…AWESOME! Took a really cool car ride all the way around West Maui. It may not be the Road to Hana but it was a challenging drive & very beautiful. Ate at a lot of nice restaurants, every meal was excellent from the Deli to Bubba Gumps. (A lot of fun) for our anniversary we went to the Old Lahaina Luau. We loved it! Got hooked on snorkeling BIG TIME! Did Honoloa Bay 1st time, then some spots in South Maui – real nice. Tried Black Rock was so-so. Went back to Honoloa Bay – best by far. Also snorkeled in front of the condo, best snorkeling at point to the North (with ladder) Well we are on to Oahu for another week. Only hope it’s half this nice. We will stay here again when we com back. You should be very proud of this place.

          Thanks again and Mahalo

Unfortunately we only had 2 days her but fortunately we are off to Kona tomorrow afternoon. Our arrival started with a turtle taking a break on the rocks.  Very cool. Since we were awake at 3:30 a.m. we got an early start on the Road to Hana – 5 a.m. It was great to leave that early. Light traffic. What an awesome trip with awesome views. We tried to experience everything from the mosquitoes at the falls to the yummy banana bread along the road. Ate at Mama’s Fish House on the way home. High prices, yummy food and yummy views. Wow, well worth the crazy bill. Stopped in Pai’a for some shopping. Loved it there so we stopped by another day for some lunch. On Friday we decided to visit the volcano and decided to go North around that single lane nail biting drive.  Wow crazy driving there, crazier than the Road to Hana. Again what and experience, beautiful views. We stopped at an amazing house that has an art gallery featuring local artists. BEAUTIFUL house and artwork. Bought some pottery there. Found out that the house is owned by Bill Gates brother. Who knew?? Volcanoes are cool. Went all the way up. Tomorrow we will relax before we go to Kona. Thanks for a wonderful time and well kept place!!

Dear Ray and Connie,

We feel very privileged to be the first British people to write in this book. When you travel half way around the world you can’t help wondering what you have let yourself in for and whether it all will be as good as you hoped for. Well it was! Your first rate instructions meant we found it easily and your generous provision of all the extras were very much appreciated. The best of all though was having obtained the key exactly as per your instructions.  When we walked in we both just went WOW! This is a special place and being so close to the sea (or ocean as you call it) has been fantastic.

As we were savoring our last evening here we saw an enormous turtle that popped his head up and waved his fin at us. We like to think he was saying “We’ll see you again” because we would love to return one day. About the only mistake we made was not booking for longer as there is so much we haven’t had a chance to do. The many suggestions you made and those of other visitors have all been very helpful. Of our 5-1/2 days here we golfed 3 at Makenna North and Kahili, the former being the a better and more picturesque experience. We’ve enjoyed snorkeling at Honoloa Bay, sunbathing at Big Beach, shopping in the various malls, the Museum of Whalers at Wharf and the dreaded Road to Hana. Having determined to drive the whole way around there was a physical barrier across the road which we didn’t feel we should move so we turned around and drove all the way back! Dinner at Mama’s Fish House was a fantastic reward however and we’d recommend it to anyone.

We take away some lovely memories and some quite amazing sunset pictures. Very many sincere thanks and we hope we may return some day. For now though we are off in a couple of hours for a week in Oahu and then the long flight home stopping off for a couple of nights in New York. Many thanks again.

Ray and Connie,

We are leaving tomorrow early. We thank you so much for the use of your “condo” home. Very comfortable and relaxing. Loved the lanai and location. We have been to Maui many times so we have seen and done a lot. Our life is busy so we relaxed a lot. My husband says, “Very nice, very pleasant and enjoyed it.”

New dining for us. Mala Ocean Tavern. Pricey but good. We had a spectacular evening and dinner at I/O pronounced EE-OH. Service and food was great. Next time we will go to their farm where they grow food for the restaurant. All organic and fresh. We also enjoyed cooking on the grills provided ad eating in.

We hope to come back sooner than later. I will definitely share with those we know about your condo and our enjoyable and relaxing visit!

Mahalo Ray and Connie,

Got off to a rough start with the sink hole construction but we took off and saw Haleakala on Sat and did the road to Hana on Sun. The audio tape was great. Stopped at Mama’s Fish House on the way back. What a great place. Beautiful settings and great food. Went to Old Lahaina Luau, Whalers Village, the Aquarium and it was all great. Have taken some sunset pics and saw beautiful turtles popping their heads up. Went to Hakele Pt. today and Dan had a wonderful time snorkeling and saw lots of fish. Me, I’m a weenie and stayed on the beach which was still great and beautiful.

Your condo is fantastic. Obviously a lot of love and care has gone into the making it a “home away from home” for all visitors.

This is such an amazing place and we have had a true vacation full of both fun and relaxation. This condo has everything we could have hoped for in amenities & household items as well as a view and sounds of the ocean that mesmerized us daily. Our biggest challenge (I’ll take this challenge any day) was deciding what Maui adventure to experience or whether to just kick back and “be.” We usually chose a mixture of both each day which seemed to make this week go on much longer.

We snorkeled a lot. (day trip to Molokini and Turtle Town) Well worth it as is Honoloa Bay to the North. Drove to new destinations around West Maui. Haleakala Crater another day around sunset. Experimented at various restaurants. Favorites were Sunrise Café in Lahaina, $6.00 breakfast, dinner at Lahaina Fish Co., & Leilani’s at Whalers Shopping Center, drinks at Hula Grill and the deli down the road for lunch.

We are leaving here exhausted yet rested at the same time. That might sound like a contradiction but the restedness is the peace of mind and serenity we gained while physically tiring our bodies in the sun and water.

This was our 20th anniversary and the first time we traveled more than a few days without our 2 sons. Coming without them was a good choice & allowed us more flexibility to spend time the way we wanted. What a treat.

We’ll be back. With places like this to escape to we just might make another 20 years of marriage!

Thank you Ray and Connie. So much good advice and a very comfortable home away from home.

Dear Ray and Connie,

First of all THANK YOU, thank you, THANK YOU! We love your home so much and feel very blessed and lucky to have found it. We can’t imagine not staying here and look forward to coming back again.

This is my first trip to Maui and Brett’s third. I love it here. The beaches are so beautiful and we had so much fun each day going to different ones. We really liked Kapalua Bay. Easy snorkeling. Ray thanks so much for letting everyone know the great snorkeling spots. We went out for a 4th of July sail. Not really worth the cost. I think I would have been just fine to have watched the fireworks from town.

We at lunch at Bubba Gumps. Yum. Our favorite dinners were on the lanai watching the sunsets.

The Road to Hana was fun. We left at 6:15 a.m. The sights were just beautiful. Very windy roads! The CD and book were very helpful. The best banana bread from Julia’s.

I enjoyed all the shopping on Front St.

Last night we finally got to see a sea turtle after sunset. It was right near the sea wall. What a treat. P.S. I saw one this morning.

Our stay and sunset Central is just about over. We loved every minute. Again thanks so much for opening up your lovely home. We hope to return again in the future.

Dear Ray and Connie,

We had the most wonderful vacation at your condo. We walked in the door and it felt like home. Thank you for the packet of information and guest comments. Both so helpful.

We went to Farmer’s market and bought yummy fruit, veggies, spreads, coffee and bagels. Inside the Farmer’s Market and Deli store they have many non-gluten items such as bread and crackers. Great for those that can’t have the gluten. We had heard the Old Lahaina Luau was sold out, however we went in person and put our name on a waiting list. They called us the next morning and we went that evening. It was truly worth it.

We made it to Hana. We did a quicker trip and still saw many sites. We started off with the CD tour but got ahead of it. So we use the information from the book “Maui Revealed” in the hall closet as our back up. We stopped on our way back and bought beautiful flowers from a roadside stand.

Any Harley riders out there? Aloha Toys was a great place to rent from. We had a nice newer 2008 bike and a fantastic ride. Remember sunscreen.

Our favorite place to eat was right here at Sunset Central. We saw the best sunsets! Other places we ate at. Cheeseburgers in Paradise and Bubba Gumps. We also had appetizers at Canoes and take out from Okazuya Deli. Mahi Mahi lemon caper was our favorite. We have eaten at Mama’s Fish on another trip to Maui. We plan to stop today before we head to the airport.

It’s hard to leave, but know we must so we can start planning our next visit.

P.S. We enjoyed the music selection too.

Dear Ray and Connie,

We have truly been blessed to have found your condo. I looked at practically every 1 bedroom condo on Maui. My husband wanted Napili Bay and I thought it would be too crowded. Well, I was right. We went over there to see what we missed out on and it was wall to wall and the waves were extremely strong that day. It has been very peaceful here and we’ve been up each morning between 5:30 and 6:00 and enjoying our bird friends.

We took the Road to Hana on Thursday and decided not to rush it. We spent the night at a tropical flower grower’s guest house. All the exotic flowers in Hawaii are fantastic. Unfortunately we never made it to 7 ponds. I became very sick and went to the doctors on call over at the Hyatt. If anyone ever needs medical attention I highly recommend them. I had all the symptoms of Lyme’s disease. I was walking our property at home and picked off 3 ticks. I must have missed one. Even though I was sick we still had in between times to enjoy a helicopter ride, snorkeling boat trip, and he Luau at the Hyatt. We gave it a 6. The Old Lahaina Luau had been sold out for weeks.

We leave Monday morning to fly over to Kaui for our second week. We are staying at a resort so we are really relishing these last few hours staying around here on the lanai and watching Harold snorkel at Ray’s recommended spots.

We were also blessed to have double rainbows directly in front of us this morning.

Mahalo for making my first trip to Hawaii a memorable one.

Ray & Connie,

Thanks so much for allowing us to enjoy Sunset Central. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary.  The most relaxing and enjoyable vacation I have ever had. The weather was perfect. Sunny and breezy. The sunsets were unbelievable and being on the lanai and in the morning listening to the birds. The Road to Hana was great. ) Like a picture book) Thanks for the use of the tape. Snorkeling out from the condo was great. We ate at the Deli and Kimo’s and both were great. Our first time in Hawaii but won’t be the last. So much to see and do. Thanks again for the use of your condo & all the extras that you don’t get from most places.

P.S. all that hard work in remodeling really looks good.

Dear Ray and Connie, Sunset Central was great!

We came looking to relax and we were successful. Thank you so much for all the advice and communications. We did so many activities while here besides watching the sunsets every evening. The zip line was a blast. We did the road to Hana as well and we would have to say, WOW! Spend more time site seeing than actually going to Hana on your next trip. We celebrated Madeline becoming a veterinarian and our 6th wedding anniversary. Again it was amazing and we will look forward to another visit…..

Aloha. Boy what a great choice we made by staying at Sunset Central. We usually stay at a resort. But this time was worth the change. Can’t Beat the OCEANFRONT ~ GOUND LEVEL VIEW!

We were on our 5th anniversary. We were married on May 11th 2003 at Kaanapali Beach! Most of the stay was at the beach relaxing. It was nice to spend time at this little beach and lounge in the chairs right outside the lanai. It was very quiet and peaceful here. We made the trip to Hana. Over 12 hrs. WOW! Make sure you stop and get fresh fruit and banana bread at the stops at the stands in and around Hana. Yum! Best ever! The trip was beautiful. Take the CD but make sure you take the book “Maui Revealed”. It is in the hall closet. It gives you little places to go and see that the CD doesn’t. It is a great book for all the secrets and directions to beaches on the island. It is the bible. We took it everywhere.

We ate out at Lahaina Fish Co., Kimo’s, Rusty Pelican, Moose’s, Leilani’s. The BEST happy hour is Moose’s. You call until 7 p.m. $3.00 cheap! Great View! We had the fish tacos. They were great. Kimo’s was very good. My husband had the prime rib and it was very good. My Mahi Mahi was excellent! Great Service! Do not recommend the Lahaina Fish Co. was not good. Leilani’s at Whalers Village was very good. Eat at the bar area. Had Calamari for appetizer. It was the best we ever had. Fish and Chips were awesome. Made from Ono. Will not be able to eat them again in the States it was so good.

We love Maui! Beaches were great! Kaanapali for swimming, Kapalua for snorkeling, Big Beach down in Wailea for body surfing. Well worth the drive. Beautiful beach and fabulous sand, so soft. The beach is so big there were no crowds. We saw a huge turtle swimming with us at Kaanapali. It was great! He was huge!

          Thanks again! We loved it!!

Dear Ray and Connie,

We had a great time, not enough time though. We needed at least 3 more days. Oh well. We made every day count.

One of our highlights was driving down Front St. to pick our dinner spot. We had fun at Bubba Gumps but we enjoyed he setting for a romantic dinner at Lahaina Fish Co. The food was wonderful. Recommend the Opah and Swordfish dinners. We had the most fun snorkeling at Kahekili Beach Park. No waves, perfect for snorkeling. Another thing we did was a snorkeling trip to Molokini Crater on the Pride of Maui Cruise. Good lunch and very nice people. Every morning we sat on the lanai and ate our breakfast. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your condo. It was wonderful.

P.S. The wind blew the whole time. Next time we will try a different month

P.S.S. We saw the baby Gecko on the toilet seat.  So cute

Wow! We came here to vacation, get new carpet and paint bedroom. We did that and

  • Bought new sofa sleeper.  We love it
  • Bought new 37” flat screen TV and moved old one to bedroom.  We love it
  • Bought new dining set
  • Bought new stand for TV
  • Removed two light stands and opened up the ocean view room
  • Did deep cleaning

Last time, 12/27/07 we came here and worked too hard.  Not this time.
Food: Went to Hula Grill, Whalers Village, and had Caesar’s Salad with 5 oz. of Ahi.  It was great. Went to Café Olei in Wailuku.  If you are in Wailuku, central Maui it is worth the stop.  Only went to the Deli Okazuya three times this trip.  The Bakery in Lahaina, by Taco Bell is great.  Went to Smokehouse in Lahaina.  Locals go there. Connie’s Ono grilled sandwich was great. ~$9.00. Best Ono we have had.
We would like to stay longer but next couple coming in probably would not like it. Sunsets were ok but no spectacular but still fun. Slept in the new sofa sleeper.  Had to try it out. First comfortable one we have slept in. Snorkeled at Honoloa Bay, 4.8 miles North of here. Unbelievable.  80 feet visibility, thousands of fish, one turtle.  Saw a herd of squid and they changed colors.  It was great.  We have a new free loader guest.  Cute little Gecko about 1-1/2” long that hung out on bathroom ceiling in afternoons.  Saw a whale breach, 2nd time ever for us.  This is the end of the whale season.  We have never stayed here during peak whale season.  Will some year.  Also saw two beautiful cardinals walk by our condo each afternoon.

Well, off to airport.  We hope you enjoy our improvements.

Ray and Connie,

We had a memorable stay at Sunset Central for our 25th wedding anniversary. Thanks for the flowers, they were a wonderful welcome. This was our first visit to Maui and first time staying in a condo. I think our hotel days are over. We were very comfortable here.
One day while enjoying cocoa and coffee on the lanai we saw the tail of a whale and the most brilliantly colored rainbow ever seen.
We took the ferry to Lanai and went to Lanai City. Lunch at the Blue Ginger Cafe, visited to the cultural center and browsing at a few shops. Such a peaceful hamlet. The return ride on the ferry was like being on a bucking bronco for one hour for a usually 45 minute ride. Ocean surges in the p.m. – beware. I kept my eyes closed the entire return and kept lunch intact! We also went to Wailuku to visit the Bailey House Museum.
We drove to Kapalua and lunched at the Plantation House. What a panoramic view and good fish too. Drove to South maui Kihei and lunch at the 5 Palms in the Maui Mana Kai condo. (Found in Frommers 2003-took a chance it was still there) Excellent banana macadamia nut pancakes (yes lunch) at open window side table. Great view of Molokini. Went to Ocean Center also. Great expectation but not the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. Lunch at Mai Tai’s in Lahaina - yum! Pups (coconut shrimp) and island cob salad – delish. A new restaurant. Lunch also at Hula Grill @ Whaler’s Village. As you can tell we lunched our way throughout. Okazuya deli was great also.
Some say Maui no Ka Oi – we say Sunset Central No ka Oi!

Ray and Connie, thank you so much for the nice stay at your condo. We had a great week with plenty to do and some good rest time also. Your condo was everything you said it was and did not leave us needing anything. We did the chopper ride of south and east Maui. That was really cool. Also the Reef Dancer and a whaling watch tour. The first day we arrived we sat on the lanai and watched the whales jumping and a couple turtles went by about 100 yards out. The turtles, not the whales, they were further out. The Deli was great, we ate there 3 times. Salmon, fish & chips, mahi mahi and teriyaki steak. all good. On the last day we spent some time in Lahaina and had lunch at the cool cat cafe, they have the best burgers, and for a limited time they are running a special from 2-7 each day, $5.00 burgers, big burgers. Pass on the info to your renters.

We only saw 1 sunset for the week, it was a little rainy all week, but we are happy to take that burden off everyone else. I have included pictures of the sunset. Ray notice the tip of your new palm tree on the right side of the picture. I also included a picture of the new tree. One day we saw a rainbow connect Molokai and Lanai islands. Didn't get it on film.

Thanks again for the wonderful week in your home away from home...

OK all. We have taken the week of rain for all of you! Even with the rain we had a wonderful time.
We agree with everyone’s comments. We took an hour helicopter trip for an overview of the island. It was beautiful, especially around Hana. 7 waterfalls and lush rainforest. Other activities we did in the rain. It was still fun and relaxing “Sunset Central” was terrific. Home away from home.

Hi Ray and Connie,

Thank you for sharing your beautiful condo with us!  We had a wonderful time in Maui and some of our favorite moments were sitting on the lanai watching the whales jump in the distance!  It was the perfect place to celebrate our 30th anniversary...  Thank you for the beautiful flowers in the condo and the phone call to check to make sure everything was ok!  Your condo is so well equipped and comfortable and has a million dollar view!  The information you sent ahead of time was very helpful as well.

We will definitely recommend Sunset Central to anyone that we know that might be going to Maui and hopefully we will get to get to come back sometime also!!

 Thank you again for everything!

Hi Ray and Connie,
Wow, this is an incredible place to stay! We had amazing views of whales breaching right from the lanai here at Sunset Central! We also saw rainbows and perfect sunsets…What an incredible setting for us to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.
Some of the highlights from our trip: The Seven Pools of Hana. It took us about 11 hours total, including all stops (including watching surfers on the North Shore and dinner at flat Company (organic pizza in Paia) The trip is beautiful, but one thing to remember is it’s the journey, not just the destination that makes it such an incredible day. We stopped to enjoy many beautiful waterfalls and views along the way. (tip – pack a cooler w/lunch and snacks) Snorkeling at Black Rock by the Sheraton- easy access & a beautiful beach… plus we saw a lot of great fish and a sea turtle. Great place for beginning snorkelers. We went on a whale watching cruise 2 separate times. Lanai Wild Dolphin Snorkel cruise. Both were with Pacific Whale Foundation. On the snorkel cruise we saw lots of whales, spinner dolphins and a Manta Ray (all from the boat) and saw beautiful fish, reef and sea turtles in the water. Took a drive North of here and ended up in some very narrow roads in a mountainous area…the scenery was beautiful.
We ate at several places but some highlights were Leilani’s at Sunset, Canoes (great early bird specials) and Rusty Harpoon.
Thank you for sharing “Sunset Central” with us!

This place was perfect for our honeymoon. My husband and I just got married on March 17th in Kauai! The wedding was AMAZING. This was a perfect place to relax and unwind.
Some of our favorite things were: Snorkeling in Honoloa Bay (The Best), Breakfast @ Napili Kai Sea Horse, snorkeling Turtle Town (we saw 3 sharks!), surfing wherever we could. It was pretty flat.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful place.

We are first time visitors of the Island of Maui. We came here to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We spent two nights in Hana and did some great hikes to waterfalls and thru bamboo forests. The book “Maui Revealed” became our bible. His tips and directions we found to be right on. It even tells you where to park at everywhere from hiking trails to Lahaina. Being able to stay two nights there really let us enjoy the trip and many adventures. We stayed at a great little cottage 3 miles out of town called “The Hideaway”. $75/night and up. (Tom at accommodations 1-808-248-7868) Pack yourself some food and coffee or buy it at the local market in Hana.
After 3 days in lush Hana, we were somewhat taken aback by the dry landscape and traffic as we approached Lahaina. Then…….. we turned the key in B-106, dropped our luggage and were squealing like little girls as we immediately saw the whales jumping. Yes Paradise Found. Our 10 days here have been filled with beautiful sunsets and great weather. The people here are very friendly and a great resource.
There are great places to eat between here and Star market. The deli was a hit (as everyone has mentioned) We also enjoyed the Piazza Paradaiso (both the piazza and pasta) Java Jazz is a fun place to eat or just get a beverage. There’s a bar on one side and a coffee bar on the other side with tables in between. Live music M-Sat 7-9.
Every Friday night the galleries are open in Lahaina from 7-10. You can meet some of the artists and have a glass of wine in some. Really wonderful mix of great art.
We left here at 3:10 yes a.m., and made the trip to Haleakala for the sunrise. It was one of the highlights of our trip. It was so clear we saw the Milky Way. We brought lots of warm clothes from here and luckily there was no wind and 47 degrees. The road up was really well marked and you are above the clouds. It was an awesome experience.
I both dove and snorkeled and I agree with Ray that Honoloa Bay to the North of us was wonderful. The water was yucky when you first get in but swim to the reef to the right and you will find many different types of fish and perhaps a turtle.
I could go on and on as you can see we have had a fun filled and memorable holiday and celebration. We can’t wait to come back and we have not left yet.
Thank you so much Ray and Connie for the beautiful flowers and for sharing Sunset Central.

Fondly, Linda and Sharon, Sacramento, CA

P.S. Try the “Luana Dreams” massage by Ona at the Hanamana spa in the same strip mall as the deli.  It was heavenly.

Aloha Ray and Connie,
Another good year! 24th time. Loved staying in B-106. Mahalo for sharing. Minnesota has had a very cold and snowy winter so we are really happy to be here.
We were happy to be on the lanai for many sunsets. (Sunset Central is a perfect name!!) Got out one evening and saw a “Moon Bow”, like a rainbow only grey in color. Also early in the a.m. saw some beautiful “Moon Sets” come right down to the ocean and disappear.
Our only new dining experience this year was Sansei. It was excellent. Butterfish was one of our favorites.
Now it is time for Aloha. Mahalo again for sharing this beautiful place with us.

Our favorite place to eat was Buzz’s Wharf. Just fantastic sea food. Loved the birds singing out here. Every day felt like the first day of Spring. I’m lonesome already for Sunset Central.

“SUNSET CENTRAL” is a perfect name for this condo. This was our first trip to Maui and from all accounts we experienced the most powerful storm in over 30 years. It was incredible. Kihei got it much worse than us.

We thoroughly enjoyed this condo. It was everything Ray and Connie said it was and much more. We saw dozens of turtles right in front of the condo and being able to snorkel right here was a nice surprise. We will never stay in a resort again.

Snorkeling at Molokini was nice.  Never got to Hana but it is on our list. We had some activities cancelled due to weather conditions but we had an incredibly relaxing vacation and that’s why we came anyway. We saw some beautiful sunsets and had some tasty BBQ’s.

Thanks so much for allowing us to stay at “Sunset Central”. It was excellent. We will be back.

We arrived after dark, we could hear the crashing waves, but had to wait until morning. WOW, what a sight.  It is so beautiful here. Just sitting out on the lanai is a vacation within itself.  The condo is so well equipped and clean! You have everything we need and more!

  •          Boss Frogs down the street. We rented snorkel equipment for the week, only $90.00 for all three of us.
  •          Kaanapali Beach – nice long beautiful beach for swimming & snorkeling. My husband and 15 year old daughter shorkeled to Black Rock, saw sea turtles
  •          Great lunch at Hula Grill, outdoors and lively & great people.
  •          More snorkeling/swimming here at condos
  •          The best snorkeling at Ulua Beach. in front of Renaissance Wailea Resort. Easy access to coral reef. We saw turtles, octopus, ray, hundreds of fish
  •          Kimo’s Restaurant on Front St.. Great meal and gorgeous view sitting outside. Lots of shops on Front St.
  •          Trilogy snorkel/scuba excursion from 8 am to 2 pm was great. Took us to turtle town and swam with giant sea turtles. I felt like a child every time I saw one, it was so exciting. Trilogy served continental breakfast and only 47 people on the sailing catamaran.  Awesome experience

I’ve gotten up every morning between 4-5 and sat on the lanai for a few hours. This view and the sound of the crashing waves will truly be missed.

Thank you so much for making your condo available. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Ray and Connie,

I apologize for taking so long to respond.  We loved Maui and LOVED your condo.  You  had everything we needed (and more)!  Very clean too.  It was perfect for the 3 of us. Megan (15 yrs) slept on the sleeper sofa and got to go to sleep every night listening to the waves crashing.  I woke up every morning before dawn (around 4:00-4:40); used the great little night light in the kitchen so I could make coffee without waking up Megan; went out to the lanai in the dark...listened to the ocean and read my book (great dimmer light!), waiting for the sun to rise.
One of the boogie boards was already broken when we got there; tried to use it at Napili beach; got smashed by a wave and broke the boogie board even more.....we replaced it.

Great neighbors...talked to Chuck for a while early one morning. Very friendly. He has a nice deal going for ten years.  Saw a monk seal (N5) resting on the beach all day (from morning until at least 9 pm)...we learned it's endangered, so that was pretty neat to see.  Got some good pictures of it. Your "Favorites"  was very helpful as well as the guest book.  Between those two things and my own research, we had a good idea of the things we wanted to do and restaurants to try. Ulua Beach was incredible snorkeling.  Trilogy Excursion was fantastic. Only 47 people on the catamaran, and you're served continental breakfast, snacks, drinks, lunch.  Great crew.  Molokini was too dangerous to snorkel that day, so they took us to a turtle town. It's surreal snorkeling with the sea turtles.

Boss Frog's became our best friends for the week.  We rented snorkeling equipment for the 3 of us for only $90 total.  We were in there everyday doing or buying something.  Excellent prices.  I got a Hawaiian dress to wear to the luau for $10!! Bad Ass coffee down the street was also great.

Suffice it to say, we had a wonderful time.  It's the first time in my life when I came home from vacation and I was actually depressed for a few days because I wanted to be back in Maui.  What made it so spectacular was staying at Lokelani in your condo. The oceanfront view can't be replaced.  Thank you for everything!

Ray & Connie,

I must admit that enjoying time in your condo minimized the onset of my birthday! (a painful one) We enjoyed the true aspect of “Home away from home”!! As our first trip to Maui, we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and ability to enjoy many beaches and the view from your lanai. The Deli and Fish Market were our favorites as traveling with a 2 year old can be challenging. We filled our trunk with your picnic necessities and hit the road for various road trips. Honestly the turtles, gecko’s, crabs and snails by the pool were Cohen’s favorites.  Thank you for sharing your home with us!

This was our second stay in your condo and can’t wait for the third. The best part of our stay, like the last time is the simple pleasure of sitting on the lanai with home made Mai Tai’s. There is no other place in the world as calming, inspiring, and beautiful as your lanai at sunset.

Our favorite adventure this time was the Nakalele Blow hole, walking there the long way around is surreal, and the hole itself, WOW. We arrived at high tide and the spout was just booming. Snorkeling Honoloa Bay was a treat… once we got over the rocks into the water we saw spectacular fish. We also drove the wrong way to Hana. Well, not quite to Hana because the road is closed. It’s a thrilling adventure to ride if you have a jeep or other 4WD with a high ground clearance and a steel stomach. Half the road is gone and warning signs are posted everywhere. But just keep going!

For dining out we always love Sansei for sushi, and the Lahaina bakery for vacation only, really bad for you cheese Danish’s, muffins, cookies, and other treats. We ate at the Plantation House, expansive views and excellent service. Darn good fish too. Get there early & ask for a window seat.

Halloween in Lahaina is a blast. It’s a little bit like New Orleans, or a touch of the Castro… but a little more family friendly. You can park on the street behind Longs and stroll into town, or take a shuttle bus. Look around the condo for costume material. I went as a cereal killer using a Raisin Bran box and Carl dressed as a Caesar in a nice toga, using bed sheets. (We washed everything of course!)

Lots of turtles on the left side of the sea wall. Napili Beach was our favorite this time.

Ray & Connie, Many thanks for a great setup. We couldn’t think of anything that was not available to us that needed or wanted. We couldn’t imagine staying in a large resort again.  We are sold on condo life.  Some of our favorites: The awesome sunsets! Plantation House restaurant is a great place for dinner. Road to Hana. Sunshine helicopters. Lahaina Divers are very professional and very fun to dive with. Highly recommend using them.
Sunset Central is the best place to stay on Maui.

ay and Connie, We are back after two glorious weeks on that
beautiful island - and two weeks was not enough.

Many Thanks for allowing us to spend our time in what could not have been a better location and set up for our vacation.  There wasn't anything that we needed that you did not have in your condo. Tastefully decorated, well stocked with everything and located in a perfect area.  Your directions, pictures and maps were exact.  Sunset Central is a very appropriate title for what you offer. No matter what our activity was for the day, we were always anxious to get back home for cocktails and sunsets on the lanai.  There is only one place to stay when we come back to Maui - Sunset Central. We were pleased to see that the pictures on your web site are real!

Our favorites pretty much mirrored what people have stated in the past. The Road to Hana is a must.  Our rental car did not have a cassette player so we purchased the CD version and left it there for others to enjoy.

The Plantation House Restaurant was our favorite for any meal.  Expensive but worth it.  We only had one bad meal and that was at Moose McGillicuddy's. The jazz and cocktails at Canoes was great. We tried Giovanis and found it very average. BJ's pizza and Maui Brewing Co were both good.  Cheeseburger in Paradise and Buzz's Wharf were great views and atmosphere but just OK meals.

The back road from the airport - through Kapalua was beautiful and can be traveled with a car.  Not quite as picturesque as Hana, but less demanding also. I took us about an hour to drive.

Lahaina Divers is a great dive shop.  Professional, safe, modern dive boats and offer a wide variety of dives. Turtles, eels, sharks, you name it - we saw it.

Golf - Kapalua is a must, we reserved a twilight rate, showed up early and they let us on.  We were able to complete 18 in time.  Kahili, Wailea, and the Dunes were all good courses.  Elleair and Pukalani were average.  I heard many good things about Makena but ran out of time.

Sunshine Helicopters gave us a wonderful and informative view of the entire island.  Also, very professional.

Blue Water Rafting has a reasonable tour that boats you back to an area you can't get to by land.  Also offers stops to snorkel with turtles and to Molokini.

It may seem strange for a Maui vacation, but Warren and Annabelle's Magic show was very entertaining.  We happened to meet the magician on a golf course and decided to check out the show because of him.  We are so glad we did.  Humorous, fascinating and well worth the time and money.  You can get appetizers and drinks before the show in a very tasteful lounge.

The only thing we would do different next time is to skip Costco.  We found the prices were similar to the Star Mart close to the condo and of course, smaller quantities. We did over stock on a few things that either went to waste or left behind.

Again - we compliment you on your location and appointments to your condo.  Never again will we waste our time and money on a crowded, impersonal resort.

Until next time - Mahalo - we couldn't have asked for more.

Kurt and Diane Zimmerman, Glendale, AZ

PS: I realized we didn't mention anything about the bike ride down the volcano.  We are a couple of 50 year olds that aren't in great shape, but completed the ride easily.  Everyone who can walk should give this experience a try. Truly and adventure

First off, WOW, we could not have dreamed of a better place to spend our anniversary.

We spent most evenings watching the sea turtles just outside our door. We took one of the dinner cruises one night and it was very nice. One day we took the ferry from Lahaina to the island of Lanai. Had no idea how beautiful it was going to be. What a great little surprise. Well worth spending the price of the ferry to spend a day over there. We did the Old Lahaina Luau for breakfast. We found out too late that the dinner show sells out quickly and you really need reservations about 2-3 weeks in advance. Also well worth seeing is the Maui Ocean Center. Aloha Mixed Plate is a great lunch place in Lahaina on Front St. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is a nice place for dinner.

We had such a great time here we hope to be able to return someday soon.

Paradise! I promised my hubby that for our anniversary trip and Paradise he got!

This really is what I had been hoping to find when I started making plans for this trip. It’s great.  A place for us to focus and relax, re-charge our “batteries” and just enjoy. The view was always interesting, changing clouds, colors of the water changing, watching the changes of the other island colors. The surf was soothing to listen to and the rain never bothered us.

We did the trip to Hana.  Left about 9 am from here and arrived back around 10 pm. We had a very full day and saw so much. Definitely use the CD by the stereo in your car. It instructs you about many places you would not know about by just driving. We did them all! The waterfalls were very full because of the rain this week.

Enjoyed breakfast on the lanai every morning and BBQ’d our dinners in the evening. We attended the Old Lahaina Luau for our anniversary dinner & enjoyed it quite a bit. We also took a day trip to Honolulu for the Arizona Memorial tour, the Bowfin submarine & the Missouri. We really needed more time and next year we will sty on Oahu for a few days then come here. But the air travel on ‘Go airlines was a breeze.  Strongly recommend.  Great trip.

Snorkeling great right in front. 2 sea turtles loved to play every day.

Your condo was great. Absolutely beautiful. We had a great time. We did many of the fun things that you recommended. We attended the Old Lahaina Luau, we went on one of the dinner cruises, we took a ferry for a day trip to the island of Lanai and many other fun and exciting things. We watched sea turtles playing in the water just about 10-20 feet out in the water right in front of the condo. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful place with us. We enjoyed our 22nd anniversary and Ted's birthday while we were in Maui. Again, Thank you so much for everything.

We had an incredible time here in Maui and at Sunset Central. We saw every sunset from the lanai and enjoyed every moment. The place is great and feels like a home away from home. We couldn’t have asked for a better vacation.

We found Napili Plaza to be very helpful with great food options. (smoothie place & BBQ place) and also loved the pancakes and fried rice at the Gazebo.

Thank you for everything and I’m sure we’ll be back.

Thank you Ray and Connie.

We had an amazing time in Maui and we were extremely pleased with your condo.  The accommodations were excellent and you supplied everything we needed for our stay.  You can't put a price on that view from the lanai.  We spent quite a significant amount of time staring out into the ocean and watching the sunsets.

Also, thank you for the recommendations on eating out.  We enjoyed the deli, Sansei, and especially the Plantation House. The location of the condo is perfect and conveniently located to everything, yet far enough away from the populated tourist areas.  My girlfriend and I are already looking forward to going back and will definitely book with you again.  The info packet you provided was very helpful and made the planning of our trip much easier.

Thanks again for sharing your condo with us and we're really looking forward to our next Maui vacation.

Thanks Ray & Connie,

We loved our stay at Maui!  The condo was the perfect set up for us.  It felt like home away from home.  We cooked a couple dinners there, using the grill and ate out on the lanai during the sunset.  WOW!  (see pic)   The first day we arrived about 7 pm just as it started to get really windy and rainy (weather affects from the hurricane, which turned out to be the only bad weather we experienced). Thanks to your great directions from the airport it made the trip easy driving in the dark, stormy, unknown territory.   The next day the hurricane was suppose to hit the big island, but it turned into a tropical storm and all we had in West Maui was a windy day and had to re-schedule our sunset sail.  All the following days we had activities everyday.  I believe Andrea wrote all them down in the condo journal.  The days started flying by.  Each night we would relax at the condo for a sunset or gazing at the midnight sky and listen to the ocean waves crash.  Then morning comes and we would have breakfast on the lanai and head off to our next activity.  I think our favorite activity we did was the "Maui Stables" horse back tour east of Hana.  The scenery was some of the most beautiful we have ever seen.  The guide was a native Hawaiian descendant from a long line of Hawaiian chiefs.  He talked of the true Hawaiian culture and history.  You really felt totally secluded from the rest of world out there.

Thanks again for sharing your condo with us.  It made our honeymoon the ultimate experience that we will always remember!  We will definitely be back!

Aloha, Sincerely, Andrea and Jesse

08/14/07 email: Aloha Ray & Connie,

We had a wonderful time at your Condo celebrating our 25th anniversary. When we arrived and walked through the front door we were in awe of the view from the lanai. It was so breathtaking we were in paradise. Thank you for all information and suggestions regarding activities in Maui. The highlights of our stay: We used the CD on our drive to Hana. It was very helpful. On our next visit we plan on stopping at a couple of spots to spend more time there. Snorkeled at HonolauBay and found a bay at Makena. We drove up to Haleakala to see the volcano. Next time we would either go up to see the sunrise or sunset. Heard both were beautiful sites to enjoy. Took a cruise to Molokini and Turtle town. Molokini was so clear with approximately 150 feet visibility. Saw beautiful coral, fish, turtles, and a couple of white tip reef sharks. Don swam with a large turtle by the sea wall by the condo. Now for the food: We enjoyed the Okazuya Deli, ate there a few times. Good prices. We had a good time at the Old Lahaina Luau and enjoyed the entertainment. Had our anniversary dinner at Canoes. It was very nice. Tried the Aloha Mixed Plate. We rather eat at the deli. What ever our days activities were, we always came back to enjoy the sunset from the lanai. Thank you for sharing your condo. It was a 'Home away from home'. We look forward in staying at Sunset Central in the near future. We will highly recommend your condo to our family and friends.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful condo with us. The view is spectacular and the snorkeling was wonderful out there. (Just as you described)  While honeymooning we enjoyed the bike ride dash down Haleakala, a beginner scuba dive, the Road to Hana (nauseating but beautiful), horseback riding in Hana, the Old Lahaina Luau, and or favorite dining experience of Mama’s Fish House. (pricey but worth it). Thanks so much for the many memories.

8/4 to 8/11/07 Guest Book Entry: As we walked through the front door and saw the view out the lanai we were both in awe of the beautiful view of the ocean.  We could not believe the ocean was steps away. Every morning and evening we looked out and listened to the waves. And watched the ever changing sunsets.  Highlights of our wonderful vacation in Maui; Road to Hana. We used the CD and it was very helpful to know where to stop and see the sights. We stopped for a coconut break. Snorkeled in Honoloa Bay, nice calm Bay. Also snorkeled in Makena. Saw several turtles and beautiful coral reef.  Haleakala National Park to see the volcano. Met Chad at Boss Frog’s and booked a cruise to Molokini and Turtle Town. We had a blast. Water’s very clear. Saw lots of fish and coral at Molokini. At Turtle Town we came across some turtles and even saw 3-5 White Tip Reef Sharks. Swan with a large turtle outside the Condo’s Sea Wall. We had dinner at Okazuya’s Deli (Good food and reasonably priced) Old Lahaina Luau.  It was fun, dinner was delicious and enjoyed the entertainment.  Had our 25th anniversary at Canoes. Food was very good. Tried Aloha Mixed Plate. Food was also good. Pretty busy place.  Thank you for sharing your “Home Away from Home” condo with us.  We celebrated our 25th anniversary and had a very wonderful vacation. Maui is beautiful. This is Paradise. We enjoyed ourselves so much we plan on returning in the near future.  And of course staying in B106. We will highly recommend your condo to family and friends. Our fond memories are relaxing on the lanai and sitting on the sea wall to watch sunsets.

We were so excited when we first walked in to see how close we were to the ocean. The condo is so nice and made it very easy to relax and get comfortable. We spent every morning out on the lanai enjoying the ocean and the breeze. One thing that we did that we suggest to all is going up to the top of Haleakala at sunset.  It was breathtaking. Don’t forget some sweatshirts. We also took a trip to the Maui Ocean Centers (aquarium) that was fun. I think the thing we liked the best though was just being here relaxing and watching from our back door the seat turtles and many crabs. We were here for a friend’s wedding so we spent a few daytimes at the Westin and the Fairmont. Very nice upscale hotels. Recommend going to see the pools and beaches but nothing as relaxing as the Sunset Central.

Ray and Connie Aloha!

First expression we share “I’m Home” looking out at the wonderful ocean view and Molokai. Your condo is very wonderful and pleasant. We came for our daughter’s Wedding planned at the “Old Lahaina”.  Wish we had more time here at your beautiful home. We spent much of our time driving to the airport picking up family. Enjoyed the quiet time Art and I spent having breakfast overlooking our lanai. Okazuya Deli re-opened.  Our children and daughter’s in-laws stayed up the way. They both felt your condo seemed more like home.  July is hot and humid so it is suggested that your guests plan a day trip to cooler mountain areas. Old Lahaina Luau has a wonderful restaurant on the right side for lunch or dinner overlooking the ocean. Go early for dinner seating. Hula Grill outdoors for lunch or dinner wonderful great prices. Leilani’s outdoors for lunch or dinner. Took wedding party for dinner indoors a little higher prices but wonderful.  Make reservations before we had to wait 3 hrs at noon for a larger party on Fri. night.  When grass was cut I got insect bites. (Note from owner: We have not heard of this before or after and I talked to our grounds keeper about it)

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the notice on the sunglasses. They weren't ours, but I really enjoyed looking at the rainbow pic! It brought back very nice memories of staying at your place. I am sorry that I did not get back to you sooner with feedback on the condo from our stay in June. We both loved staying at your condo and especially liked the easy access to the water. Neither one of us had been to Maui during the summer vacation before, so we were kind of apprehensive about how busy and kid-filled it might be. Concerns were totally unfounded and it was never noisy due to being in the middle of the complex, rather than at either end. Parking and access from the lot was a breeze.

Prior to staying at your condo we had a unit in the condo building just to the left/south of yours (the name escapes me at the moment). Lovely condo, but the anal-retentiveness of both the owner and the management put a damper on the relaxed atmosphere we were looking for. Parking was, supposedly, strictly logged on a sign in sheet and you were supposed to pick up a permit at the front desk at 8:30 in the morning. That was it - 8:30 or nothing. No one was there on the weekend, however, and we had dive trips planned on the other days. It was unpleasant to anticipate our rental car being towed over this. The condo owners must have had either a very recent and expensive renovation or very bad experiences with renters (or both), because just about every surface was plastered with rule/admonishment stickers. There was a pool but only perilous access to the water from the main building, which made snorkeling more difficult. No beach. Having to cross through the pool area and unlocking several gates to get to the water was another minus. Wouldn't stay there again.

Would stay at your place anytime!  :-)

Hey Ray and Connie, We had an awesome time. A once in a lifetime experience. I forgot you wouldn't be reading your journal until you go to the condo, but I wrote you a poem in it. Our daughter raved about everything. Her surfing, the snorkeling, the condo. It was just perfect for us. Very private and relaxing, close to everything. We were only sad we couldn't eat at the deli and felt bad for them. I guess the gas leak had gone on the day before and pizza hut had the gas people out to check their lines. Then in the night the deli started on fire. They said it would be weeks before they could replace the equipment.

Here is your poem!

We found a slice

Of Paradise

In Ray and Connie's Hale.

The ocean waves

And sunny rays

The sunsets grand finale.

A launching pad

For the fun we had

Here in beautiful Maui.

Honoloa Bay

Spending hours on the lanai.

The blessing

Of de-stressing

While at this Sunset Central.

The sharing and the caring

Has made us sentimental.

6/10/07 Email, Paul & Vicki Daggett copied us on a recommendation to a friend:

Hi Charlie,

Here is the link to the website for the Kaanapali condo where Vicki and I stayed for a week in March.    The location is a couple miles north of the Kaanapali resort area (Weston, Sheraton, that you are familiar with, etc.).  The name of the condo is Sunset Central and the unit is B 106.  It is ground floor level right on the water.  The pictures on the website are the real deal, it is just beautiful there.

As discussed, I just loved getting up in the morning sitting on the lanai with a piece of fresh papaya and fresh lime, strawberries, a cup of Kona coffee and watched the whales jump in the morning sun.  After breakfast you can snorkel the reef right in front of the condo - tons of fish.

While the condo is very peaceful and relaxing, there is lots of fun stuff to do in Lahaina just a few miles to the south - shops to cruise, restaurants (BJs Pizza, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Kimo's, etc., etc.)  If you get tired of eating out but don't really want to cook, there is a little deli just up the street from the condo that will whip up an awesome takeout dinner for about $13 - $15 (favorites were teriyaki steak and chicken picatta with stir fried veggies)  Vicki and I would split one since the portions are large.  You may want to chill a nice bottle pinot gris to have with dinner.  Dinner on the lanai at sunset is just the best.

The owners are Ray and Connie Walters.  They are great folks that will go out of their way to help you have a great time - lots of great tips on things to do and ways to save money.

If you and Kim decide to go, we recommend you stop in at the Peter Lik art studio in Lahaina and say hi to Eli for us (he runs the shop)   Denielle and Gabe bought some photography last year there and so did we.  Beautiful stuff.

Good luck!  If this works for you let us know.  Also say hi to Ray and Connie for us.

Hey from Chicago ~~ Our flight leaves tonight – back to the flatland and the oppressive humidity.  Thanks to Ray & Connie for this perfect condo. Just the right equipment. Just the right temperature. It is so peaceful and quiet and comfortable. Our only sadness is the absence of OZ deli due to their fire. We didn’t starve. The Farmer’s Market has good soups and salad and we loved the fish tacos at Paia fish market. I made some good tuna meals and some pasta with poke salmon and goat cheese and Greek olives. Everything we needed was here at the condo. We loved snorkeling -  rented equipment from Boss Frog’s but it was pricey. Well worth it for Black Rock and Honoloa Bay and right in front of the condo. Well I could go on and on and on a miss the flight ~~ hmmm ~~ that is tempting.

Thanks, the Belford’s.

Aloha! I am one of Ray and Connie’s “daughter in laws” and just finished a 10 week internship here in lovely Maui. I was working up in Kula but had the good fortune to spend my last weekend in their condo. Ray & Connie have a ton of time, energy $, & love into this place and it really shows.  One of the most enjoyable beaches I found myself returning to each weekend was Po”olenalena or Makena Surf Beach in South Maui. It’s not widely known so it was never crowded. It’s got a nice sandy bottom, great for swimming & the big perk is that when the surf is low and he water clear you can see turtles swimming by sitting on the beach. If you like turtles this is the place to swim with them. There are usually 3-5 at each little shallow lava outcropping and then more with lots of fish and coral at the big lava point at the Southern point of the beach. Touching turtles is not allowed.  To get there head toward Makena on HWY 31.  Once you get to Wailea (where the hwy ends and heads toward the coast @ the Grand Wailea) watch your odometer & at two miles there’s a blue shoreline access sign and small parking (holds 8 cars on the ocean side) It’s right in the middle of Makena Surf condos.  There’s an unlocked gate you go through and follow the sidewalk down to the beach.  There is only a beach shower, no public bathrooms.  If the lot is full (it never was on the several times I went) you can park at the main Po’olenalena Beach lot a bit North.  I have seen locals camp there, so might have restrooms.  The beaches connect so you can park there and walk to Makena Surf. Bit of a trek from this condo but worth it if you love turtles.  Make sure the surf is calm. Enjoy your time in paradise.

The moment we walked in and saw the view were both breathless. This was our first trip to Hawaii and it was more beautiful than we ever thought. Thank you for the CD for the Road to Hana.  It took 10 hours to get all the way through. Yes we stopped at every spot.  The total trip was 13 hours.  Mama’s Fish House is a must! Pricey, but well worth every penny. The zip lines were a blast. If you have time it is something that is really awesome. Old Lahaina Luau was amazing. Thank you so much for opening your home so we could enjoy or stay in Maui.

Email  5/29/07 from Don Dias:

Dear Ray & Connie,
Our trip to Maui was unbelievably wonderful and the major reason was that we had a stunning "home away from home" in Sunset Central. The condo was everything you said it would be and MORE. Not only did the sunsets defy description, but the memory of early morning (06:30) juice/roll on the lanai as the rising sun shone on Moloka'i and the crest of the breaking waves still lifts my spirits every day. The deli was absolutely the BEST - awesome Korean BBQ chicken. On our second night, we BBQ'd beef tenderloin steak accompanied by baked potatoes, cool green salad, and our favorite White Zinfandel as the sun went down over the horizon. Seldom in my life have I experienced anything as beautiful and breathtaking (not to mention good in the tummy). It was an awesome experience that was repeated constantly during the week. Oh...forgot to mention the sounds of IZ and Hawaiian music drifting from the stereo.

I went snorkeling almost every day...the reef outside the condo was FULL of fish and an unknown undersea world. We also took your advice and went to the beaches on the north side of the island (Honoloa and ???) - WHAT INCREDIBLE SNORKLING!!!!

We did so many other things (Luau, Warren & Annabelle's, pineapple plantation, Haleakala, old Lahaina town (Moose Magilicuttys, Kimo's, Canoes for jazz!!) that I won't bore you with the detail but suffice to say our experience was such that I can hear the Islands calling us back. We never did hear from the individual that was considering renting at the end of the month but if he chose not to believe me, it was his loss. We would have given him a glowing report on the outstanding attributes of Sunset Central. Sleeping was not a problem for us at all although the evening did turn a little warm a couple nights. We just turned on the auxiliary fan on the night table and zzzzzz........ We will be MORE than happy to give a glowing recommendation to anyone about your beautiful condo - please feel free to use us as a reference.

Pat and I are so grateful that you shared your wonderful condo and piece of paradise with us. We tried to take care of it as if it were our own because we truly want to return. Thank you for the deposit refund. The detail that you put into taking care of your guests, even down to the M&M's, make for an experience that could not be achieved at ANY high priced hotel. You are the consummate hosts. The joy of our honeymoon in Hawaii will provide us with memories that will last us for many years and Sunset Central will be at the core of those memories.

From the moment we opened the door until we reluctantly closed that door this place and our time here has been awesome. We love the deli and what wonderful friendly people. We loved Warren and Annabelle’s  magic show and everyone should go.  Old Lahaina Luau was superb. Us old ones decided getting up at “0” dark hundred to trek up to Haleakala was not for us but we did go during the day and it was incredible. We also took a surfing lesson and nearly killed us both & reminded us that our youth has passed us by but we loved it even though we are moaning and groaning. Sunsets on the lanai are fabulous and we dined there for several meals. The Pineapple Tour provided us with great fruit while we were here. Don has snorkeled several times but that is not my bag so the pool was great. Snorkeling was great at the North Shore beaches just as Ray said.  Sat/Sun 3-6 pm cocktails at Canoe’s listening to jazz was fun but drinks are pricey. We loved Moose McGillycuddy’s in Lahaina for lunch/dinner/drinks.  Ray & Connie bless you for opening up your condo for others to enjoy the wonder of Maui.  We will be back and also tell others what an experience it is here.

Thanks so much for sharing your slice of Paradise with us. We had a wonderful time. We really didn’t have to go far to enjoy the Sunsets, rainbows and water. One find we found was a small local restaurant in Kahului called Da Kitchen. We tried various items on the menu and everything was great. (And plentiful) It is located on 32 North of

Dairy Rd., not far from the airport. Also thanks for the diligent efforts to have everything perfect for us.

We greatly appreciate it!!

The weather finally came where we could take some pics as the clouds and rain were at the beginning of our week at your place. Met some other people at the Westin that had also rented at Lokelani, a 2 bedroom. Did get a chance to go upstairs to see a 2-bedroom for sale, very nice and a great view, but not on the ground floor. We did some sightseeing had great food, wine and Mai Tai's. Shopping is always great. Watched the sunset a few times, and just enjoyed being in such a wonderful place.

We loved the condo!  What a beautiful spot.  We especially enjoyed having our coffee on the Lanai.  We really enjoyed walking out on the grass and the beach from your condo.  We could even spot the occasional whale in the distance. Thank you.

1/16/06 per phone: We were always walking out to the sea wall. We loved the ground floor condo and how quiet it was. We just came over from a large complex with villas. Next time we come we will give you a shout.

12/28 to 1/3/07:

We received no comments from this guest.  It is likely due to the damage that was done by them on the wall next to the dining table.

12/20 to 12/28/06:

12/7 – 12/17/06:

Ray and Connie Walters (owners) came back to vacation and work on the condo.  Believe it or not we did not eat out for one dinner in 10 days.  We did watch the sunsets all 10 days from our lanai.  Next time we go we are promising ourselves to get out and try some new restaurants for dinner.  We want to be able to advise guests about restaurants.  Work, Work, Work.

As is becoming typical we did not get as much done as we hoped while here but again we are leaving the condo in a nicer condition that it has ever been.  The comments in the guest book make us feel unbelievably good.  This really is a special place. My highlight was two great beach dives.  We can’t wait to get back here, over four months from now.

Ted wrote: On the morning of Dec. 4, 6 AM, Lavonne wakened me and lead me out onto the lanai.  It was a midnight dark sky.  We stood embraced and watched a large silvery moon slide down onto the horizon and vanish. Wow! Talk about romantic!  We have seen sunsets throughout the years but never a moon set.  I would recommend that everyone see a moon set once in their lifetime.

Lavonne wrote: So much to see – so many places to eat – so little time, and we could have been content to spend the week on the lanai with take out from the deli.  Just watching the waves roll in is so relaxing.  Add the nice music of your CD’s, a glass of wine and how could it be more perfect. We chose restaurants based on their view.  Breakfast was great at the Plantation House in Kapalua and waited a short time to get a premium table.  Also a nice meal at Longhi’s in Lahaina.  Lunch was spectacular at Mama’s Fish House.  Food was different and beautifully served.  The tropical floral arrangements were so unusual – scenery so great and the kite boarders an added attraction.  The girls at Ulalena suggested Kimo’s for dinner.  The fish was excellent and it was a great place to watch the sunset.  The tiki torches as it got dark added to the tropical feel.

It’s been a wonderful week, our first in Hawaii together.  Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful place with us.

Ted and Lavonne Walters

We had a memorable time in the condo – thank you for sharing it with us. We began every day with a relaxing breakfast out at the patio - and while away plenty of time just listening to the waves. We saw some sea turtles near the back wall. Thank you for providing the beach chairs and mats.  And thank you for the Okazuya Deli recommendation.  We liked every meal we had there.

Wow! Maui is beautiful!  This was our first time here and we are on our honeymoon!  What a place to spend this time together.  Your condo is amazing.  We loved waking up in the morning right on the water where we would drink our coffee and read our morning devotionals!  We had both rainy weather and sun on our stay, but they were both beautiful!  Also, we took the helicopter ride and booked it through Expedia.  This was amazing.  A must see for everyone.  Thanks again for letting us stay in your amazing condo!  Hopefully we will be back to celebrate our anniversaries here too. God Bless!

11/27/06 Email from Niki's parents who rented the condo for Niki and Paul's honeymoon:

Hi, Niki and Paul really, really loved your condo. They had a great honeymoon. We will recommend your place to everyone we know. Hopefully, some of the rest of our family will be enjoying your place in the future.

11/1 to 11/9/07:

WOW!  What an adventure.  10 wonderful days as a family in paradise.  B-106 is a magical place.  We enjoyed every dinner on the patio.  Oden keeps asking to have “Corn dogs outside”.  We ventured to Hana and loved it.  We survived the drive with a 2 year old.  The CD was a great help.  We took the plantation tour and it was very informative and the restaurant was excellent.  There is a great beach in Lahaina past all the shops.  Great for kids.  Thank you,

        Justin, Angela and Oden

Email received 11/11/06:

My family just returned form a wonderful ten days at Sunset Central. Words can not express this piece of paradise’s beauty. Its not often
you find a home away form home. The beach, pool and grass were great playgrounds for our two year old. We didn’t want to leave for dinner for fear of missing the awesome sunsets. Thank you for thinking of the little things, it was nice not to worry about cleaning supplies, beach towels, snorkeling gear, and sand toys. You can’t go wrong with a vacation in Sunset Central.

 11/9/06: Condensed email:

Just a note to say that our trip to Hawaii was wonderful, and it was a delight to stay in your beautiful condo. Both Lori and I (and her daughter) were so pleased! It's lovely, and so close to the water. What a beautiful way to wake up in the morning -first by the sound of the ocean waves and they were intense!) and then only a moment later by a glance toward the door. That is a rare treat for us mainlanders...

10/28/06: B-106 is as close to paradise as one can get! Mahalo!  Thanks for your hard work.  The tile on the lanai and painting look great.  We really enjoyed our relaxing stay in your condo and found it hard to justify ever leaving to do anything else. A few of our favorites.

  • The Deli is great!
  • Sansei Sushi is fantastic.  We went there twice.  Visit them at their new location next to the Honolua store in Kapalua.  Go before they open for dinner at 5:30 and enjoy 25% off of everything you order from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.
  • Seeing turtles right off the lanai wall.
  • Swimming at the ever changing beach in front of Lokelani.
  • Sunsets over lanai – incredible!

Thanks for making our stay so easy and enjoyable by providing all the supplies and toys like boogie boards, beach chairs, snorkels etc.  For those of you new to Maui the book, “Maui Revealed – The Ultimate Guide Book” by Andrew Doughty is the best.  Oh and thanks for the CD that narrates the Road to Hana.  That worked well and is recommended for all making that trip. (find it next to stereo in living room) We hope to be back soon to further enjoy this wonderful oasis from the crazy world we normally live in.  Mahalo and Aloha

        Carl and Carol

PS: Thanks for the candles.  We used them out on the lanai nearly every night.

10/26/06 Emailed titled: Great Condo! Paradise

Just a quick note to let you know how much we're enjoying your condo. It exceeds all our expectations! We have trouble tearing ourselves away from the lanai to do anything else but relax and enjoy the view. Everything has been issues at all.  When we arrived, there was no beach at all at the end of the stairs. Instead, it looked like a precarious climb down over slick rocks. Over the course the week, the situation has improved magically! Today, there's a great sand beach right at the bottom of the ramp. Amazing. I'm attaching a photo for you to see. Today is just perfect weather...sunny and a light breeze.

Only one little spell of rain this week. Thanks again for the great spot.

10/13/06: It has been a wonderful week here in Maui.  We definitely got what we were looking for. A week of rest and relaxation, adventure, and beauty.  We even got the excitement and terror of an earthquake.  Who knew?  We would come from California and get an earthquake here.  It was great to spend time relaxing on the beach, snorkeling for turtles, swimming under a waterfall in Hana, having dinner while enjoying the sunset and then come “home” to this beautiful condo!

Thank you for sharing your home with us.  Hanh and Tom

PS: Okazuya deli was delicious.

10/20 Email: The trip was forever memorable. Not only did Tom and I experienced the earthquake in Maui but we also got engaged in Kona. Thank you for everything. Hopefully, we can come back there soon.  Hanh and Tom
